Card Promotions ANZ Rewards Black - 180k points, Zero fee first year

Annoyingly I doubt my bonus will go in before the SQ bonus ends. ANZ straight out said the points wouldn’t appear until the 4th statement.

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Yep. I ran into the doctor today who gave me the “Tasmania can never open ever as they don’t have ICU capacity” line a few weeks ago. Today; “I’ve only had to see one patient today. The interns are doing everything else”. I’ll admit to being wrong. I said that long lunches and cruisey clinics...

    Australian state border restrictions

Yep. And I think this is where Stockholm syndrome has well and truly set in. State border closures are well shy of “the norm”. They came to be because of a “health emergency”. The way they’ve been used is questionable, at best. To now have premiers continuing to use them purely for social...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The precedent is a serious issue. Even the way we’re carrying on now about remaining hysterical until 90% vaccination and even then just lowering it to mild panic. A huge amount of perspective has been lost. Doesn’t set us up well for future viruses.

He’s backed himself into a bad corner. If he doesn’t open, he’ll need to close to all arrivals from anywhere.

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

Finally got there. After being disconnected last night (well this morning... it was 2:45am) I called back and selected a different option which got me through to somebody (CPT again) within 15 minutes. Explained, agent seemed to get it, put me on hold and came back and said "ok done, you will...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Here’s an interesting one… just booked a hotel in Coffs Harbour and received an email telling me I needed to show a negative covid test taken within 48 hours or they won’t check me in 🙄

    Australian state border restrictions

The airlines have obligations as part of their certification to enforce international entry requirements for passengers. There’s a robust database that makes this quite easy. There’s no such requirement within our commonwealth laws to do the same.

    VA2.0 International Partners

SAA was a pain. They were good value redemptions, but VA wouldn't throw in (or even offer) the connection from the East Coast over east

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I have absolutely no doubt that, should the Australian government say a PCR test is not required, the airlines will happily comply. There are already provisions in place for refusing boarding to people who are genuinely unwell.

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

What. A. Joke. At 3hrs 52mins the call is picked up in Cape Town. Agent says "I am sorry sir, we have system issues and I am unable to open any bookings". I ask to get transferred to somebody else and I am told "I cannot do that either". Asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for 15...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Adds some serious complexity though. They aren't going to receive a negative PCR test 2 weeks later. So they'll need a "recovery letter" from a doctor. I guess there's a good chance that some doctors will hand them out like regular medical certificates, but can't say it'll be that easy...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Been vomiting about it for a long time, especially when in the next breath we're told the health system is "under strain" or "at capacity". Refusing citizens to board flights back home because they "test positive" to a virus that 90% of the country is vaccinated against (and subsequently...

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

FWIW I did get onto somebody in Cape Town last week who managed to issue a ticket that was stuck within about 10 minutes. I'm guessing it was because of a taxes calculation issue on the website.

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

Thanks. I thought so, just had something sitting in the back of my mind about individual segments on award bookings. Should have booked them separately. 3 hours on hold this afternoon before giving up, 1:30 now... really don't understand why the website can't be setup to allow class changes...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

This will be the only remaining tail of COVID... the potential of getting screwed overseas if you test "positive". I've managed to score a third jab this week before I head off overseas next, so I'm hoping that'll add enough protection 😵‍💫

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Yep. 100% vaccination isn't going to happen, and it's not needed. Say we reach 95%, that is an incredible achievement and would leave COVID as a far lesser impact to society than most other viruses, including influenza. I think a lot of people have lost sight of reality a bit... even without...
