Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Lots of posters on this thread complaining that we can't travel. I share your pain. However... As someone working in health, with a family member living in London, it is important to realise just how lucky we really are... London hospitals see record Covid patient numbers as Boris Johnson issues...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I can't see my family flying to Europe or the UK again for at least 2 or (more likely) 3 years. The risk is simply too great. If an effective, safe vaccine is produced then maybe we can return to our annual pilgrimage to the northern hemisphere but the pessimist in me suspects that FNQ will...

How will international travel work with no COVID 19 vaccine

I don't want to destroy everyone's optimism re a vaccine, but the following makes sobering reading: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2766651

    Hydroxychloroquine - What Goes On?

It will be interesting to see how Trump's experience with the drug pans out, especially if he subsequently becomes infected. If he survives, the drug will get the credit. If he doesn't - well maybe they will claim that he was in the placebo arm of a double blind trial. Maybe they should be...

How are we (Australia) going to pay for this COVID-19 spending?

I worry more about what happens when the stimulus payments end. By that stage the US economy may well be a smouldering wreck and the ramifications for the rest of the world don't bear thinking about.

How will international travel work with no COVID 19 vaccine

My prediction is that there will be no regular international flights for at least a year, and when QF starts flying again they will be using 787s converted to all J (at F prices). I am a glass half full person, mind.

Where would you be now ... ?

Actually, there was no specific plan. We had booked accommodation and were making it up as we went along. By now we would have fine tuned our itinerary, but it got derailed by some virus which is going around...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I am hearing reports from the north west of Tasmania that the public hospital is running short of PPE. Very worrying because it is a hotspot, numerous infected staff and 100 sent home to self isolate.

    Hydroxychloroquine - What Goes On?

From The Limbic, a medical newletter: "Cardiologists have warned of the need to monitor for cardiac complications of hydroxychloroquine if it is used as a treatment for COVID-19 disease. As Australia starts clinical trials of the drug and the government approves off label use of...

    Hydroxychloroquine - What Goes On?

Lots of people writing in to the papers advocating the herd immunity approach i.e. infect the young to build up resistance to protect the rest of us. Here's an idea - charter a cruise ship then call for a couple of thousand young, healthy volunteers. Add one Covid-19 positive crew member, then...

How are we (Australia) going to pay for this COVID-19 spending?

The danger with the current situation, where the government is spending like there is no tomorrow, is that come election time it won't have the intestinal fortitude to raise tax to fund it. Politicians may be tempted to print money instead. Triggering inflation, destroying savings. I would...
