Bain Capital takes Control of Virgin Australia

This was from Bain back in May. Between Jetstar and Qantas. Scurrah seemed to want to keep it with Qantas. I have no idea how the sitting in the middle works but I assume its tight seat pitch, tight turnarounds and no lounges. Murphy agrees the Bain plan is likely to sit somewhere between US...

Bain Capital takes Control of Virgin Australia

Bit hard if you have a few hundred grand thrown at you, however you say a thing and you get nothing, or you can sail off into the sunset with your cash. I know a CEO with a big Corp that was faced with that. He wanted to backstab on the way out but sadly his wife would not let a few hundred...

Bain Capital takes Control of Virgin Australia

Not many execs around the land are still in the same job at any point in the future post a takeover, new chair etc..The day was always going to come it was just a matter of how he was removed. Its clear PS sort of wanted what the 737 operation was before this process started. Its now clear...

    Ask The Pilot

As a young pilot learning the hard way via the GA route something that has astounded me along the way is automation in the bigger machines and stick and visual skills which appear to be non existent. Coming from someone who flies VFR stick and rudder all the way in all sorts of weather, I guess...

Update on VA Lounges? [Yes, BNE Nov, SYD/MEL Mid Dec, others later]

I would assume they are in the middle of lease negotiations with the lounges and all the contracts associated with it? I don’t think they would even be paying rent for these spaces under such administration circumstances?

    Ask The Pilot

Would be interesting to see how close, or far off centreline they were. Is it just me or is that a little fast, it seems a bit messy, when vacating onto the rapid.

Not great.....right? I was nervous after the 45 second mark.

    2021 Membership Packs

The bonus 12 months gets me to April but I don’t think borders and Victoria domestic will be fully open, on a no doubt ‘lite’ basis that is, it appears until Jan. Things will no doubt pickup Feb to March. I don’t think I will be back in the air until probably Feb. Back to Silver it seems...

So many wear uniform to Sim at all? Or would one be the odd one out. I guess I would feel more comfortable in uniform, being in the zone etc. That is just me though.

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Today’s results would be from Saturday? Tomorrow could be in the 1000s? I wonder if they did 6 figures worth of testing over the weekend. Would explain the large numbers. Is that justifiable though to keep paddling along doing nothing else? Higher testing...higher numbers. Sort of expected I guess.

Who is behind proposed new airline?

Don’t think they will in house operate it, they are not familiar with this part of the world and don’t really have any infrastructure in place here. I thought they would have gone with an existing freighter operator but it might be wise giving a fresh new operator the contract, gives them more...

    QF's COVID-19 minimal network schedule

Qantas Group would surely be looking at some form of equity raising going forward. Another two months with Sydney cut off that’s only a few hundred million bucks.

    Everyday Rewards relaunch

Why was Woolworths Rewards never used at Dans? It’s used at BIGW.

    QF's COVID-19 minimal network schedule

This latest banning of Sydney Metro Pax is just another nail in the financial coffin. What an absolute nightmare. I wonder how long that will drag on. Probably 4-8 weeks. I was sort of planning for a November open borders, and beginning of domestic back to normal domestic travel. Looking...

Who is behind proposed new airline?

From what I’ve heard it’s not a passenger operation It’s a Amazon freight operation. I’m just not 100% sure it’s going to be Prime Air or most likely another company operating it for them.

    Everyday Rewards relaunch

I guess removing the Woolworths name helps long term with plans to offload some of its divisions outside of the supermarkets. I guess when they finally sell BIGW off at some point in the future that will assist. Coalition partnerships. EG Fuel, Endeavour, BIGW would all pay to use the program in...

    Ask The Pilot

AV where did all your colleagues from Rex end up moving onto as time went on? I note there seems to be a lot at Jetstar ex Rex. I understand Rex Pilots would be quite valuable to to QF/VA/JQ but I don’t think I’ve seen many at QF.

Virgin Australia to be sold to Bain Capital

Bit like the JetBlue model, Mint is only available selected routes. The other non mint A321s are full Economy and largely leisure runs to Florida etc. I think it’s safe to say much of the current premium version of Virgin today is dust. It’s going to be Virgin Blue with lounges. Biz major...

Virgin Australia to be sold to Bain Capital

How do they now get around the regulatory hurdle of being 100% Foreign owned and not being able to now operate International flights under this agreement? VA International Airlines will need somewhat a local investor to be able to operate abroad. They can not operate foreign flights under a 100%...

Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

I think it’s more they are not being fully upfront with the financials. Only limited glimpse into the books at this stage. Some didn’t commit as they did not even know what they were buying.
