I recently got approved for this card.
Reading the website and T&C document, it looks like there
may be an opportunity to get more bonus miles in lieu of KF Gold.
For existing KF Golds/PPS, there is this offer printed on the website:
Existing KrisFlyer Elite Gold or PPS Club members can receive a bonus
40,000 Star Alliance Points⁶ (in lieu of Gold Status) when you spend $4,000 or more on eligible purchases² within 90 days of opening your HSBC Star Alliance credit card (that’s 32,000 KrisFlyer miles once converted). Simply nominate Singapore Airlines as your status airline and confirm you are an existing KrisFlyer Elite Gold or PPS Club member when prompted.
6. To be eligible for 40,000 Star Alliance Points, you must apply and be approved for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card and spend $4,000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days from account opening. You will receive 40,000 bonus Star Alliance points into your Star Alliance Rewards account within 30 days after reaching the qualifying spend, nominating Singapore Airlines as your status airline and
confirming that you currently hold KrisFlyer Elite Status when prompted via the Star Alliance Rewards portal. Offer is limited to new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card applicants only. Existing HSBC customers switching from another HSBC credit card or customers who have held a HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card within the last 18 months are not eligible for this offer. The conversion rate of Star Alliance Points to KrisFlyer Miles will be confirmed at the time of selecting to convert points via the Star Alliance Rewards portal.
Part of me thinks you can "confirm", but be in error.
The T&C document has this:
3.1 Welcome Bonus KrisFlyer Miles: To be eligible for the 25,000 welcome bonus KrisFlyer miles, you must:
a) Apply and be approved for a new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card during the Campaign period above.
b) Qualify for KrisFlyer Elite Gold status through the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card by:
• Meeting the HSBC eligibility criteria to ‘fast-track’ to Star Alliance Gold status, (See Terms & Conditions here which includes spending $4,000 AUD or more on eligible purchases in your first 90 days from credit card account opening and;
• Activating your Star Alliance Rewards account via the Star Alliance Rewards portal here and selecting Singapore Airlines as your Status Airline (linking your KrisFlyer membership number in the process) within 90 days of credit card account opening.
c) Issuance of ‘fast-track’ KrisFlyer Elite Gold status (
or Star Alliance Points in lieu of Gold status) under the Star Alliance Rewards Program T&Cs available here is a precondition of receiving Welcome bonus KrisFlyer miles.
It doesn't say you have to take KF EG if you aren't gold already.
However the page to make said selection says this.

32k KrisFlyer miles to me, would be better than KF EG.
Thoughts? Or is it just wishful thinking?
