Virgin Australia to lease more 737s

I don’t think they are going to retrofit the rest of the fleet sort of only indicated in the wording it was for the ‘future fleet’.

Yes of course / if they go ahead with the MAX purchase this will be the trial for that…. I hope an AFF member lands their Derrière on one soon and can provide a review. I’m not so concerned about J, but those Y seats look hard….

So look forward to trying one out and providing feedback.

Separately - I thought Bain/VA2 were thinking of something quite ‘different’ for J class no? Or did that project jet binned as well…. Or perhaps just not revealed just yet….?

Looks like IJQ has had its transponder left on for a few hours, has created a rather epic pattern on FR24.

Will be interesting to see if they get rotated around or are put on a regular roster
Aren't all metal thrown around on various routes anyway??
I mean you don't get the same plane on same route each day, day after day do you?

I'd hazzard a guess that even more so for this purpose of testing the water of the new design to get a range of people's thoughts from various parts of the country.

So perhaps the conundrum in todays world with USB power.... which port style do you put in? (Aside from saying both A & C). Whilst I imagine not huge, could the cost between single port vs dual A & C ports in the same seat plug cost more? All adds up I guess.

C and a high powered C!

Air NZ's A320neos have a USB-C port that's capable of charging my laptop. It means that AC power isn't needed!

Definitely USB-C would be my preference. All my devices are such, though you've just made me realise that travelling without a USB-A to USB-C adapter or cable isn't really wise.

5AC1CF1B-4E09-4732-9D78-841430AD46E3.pngLooks like they bulkhead is leaf design too. As well as the headrests if you look closely.

Sort of indicates some of the design around the new 2.0 branding which appears to be connected to the lounge livery also.

So refreshing to have something new and not so corporate.

Interesting snippet about an economy seat number reduction at the end of this article:
The airline has already installed the newly upgraded cabins, which include enhanced business class seats, on two of its nine newly acquired Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Similarly to Virgin’s existing 737-800 interior, the new cabin will contain eight business class seats up the front, however the new seats boast an extra recline of seven inches (17 centimetres), around 40 per cent more than existing business class seats.

In order to make room for these roomier business class seats, Virgin has removed one row of economy seats for the aircraft, with the upgraded 737-800 interior now hosting 162 economy seats as opposed to its predecessor’s 168.

Nice pickup.

Guess their research tells them the win for J class extra recline outweighs 6 less y seats in the economics Dept.

Can't say I really ever recline in J on sub 4hr flights anyway.
Yes, it was mentioned yesterday. Some articles picked up on it whilst others said there would be no reduction

Sorry to burst bubbles but I think that was just the wallpaper that SilkAir had on their 737-800s.

Having said that though, the seats do look very sleek and modern and I hope they're as comfortable as their good looks.

Likewise Business has no power (at least not obvious). I see this as a massive step backwards given many of the current fleet have power in J and a handful of them have USB in Y.

I believe the power in Business is in the recessed storage/pocket on the side of each seat.

I spoke to someone at VA2 today.

Economy will be getting USB power apparently.

Also some sort of divider is also going in apparently as well.

We will see…
USB is a given in my humble yet un-aviation-knowledge. USB-C that is

J Y Divider, we'll see what the brains at Bain HQ decide.

Just out of interest do all QF & JQ domestic & inter have USB in all seats. I literally have no idea.
Thanks in advance.

Jetstar don’t have USB yet, only on the upcoming Neo orders.

Doesn’t some VA jets have power in Economy?

The new Y seats that VA have installed have a USB port on the back of them already. Do you mean that the rest of the fleet will be retrofitted with USB power?

They had cut outs, not all seats were installed, there was a bit of a rush pre-certification according to my VA2 mate 😂
