The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Nearly 10,000 of the 70+ population had their first dose yesterday. There's now only 304,669 of the 70+ population yet to have a first dose

In the 50+ population the figure is much higher with 1,563,158 yet to have a first dose and over 2 million that have had a first dose yet to have their second. Though that includes 50-59 year olds that are eligible for Pfizer.

I still think it could be a few months before Pfizer possibly becomes available for the general over 60 population. There's still too many that are not yet fully vaccinated with the limited supply to open it up to that age group.

With NSW approaching 75% first dose, I'd say they're starting to run out of willing participants and that will bring the national rate down. Still a good result. I always thought 80% was ambitious but I am happy to say I've been proven wrong and we'll cross that line. 90% seems like a push without the stick coming out. It may be that the fence sitters will need to see others freedoms.
Agree on this, given the polls suggested around 20% plus have some hesitancy (and about 7% more than just hesitancy), they now form a significant part of what's left. Inevitable it would slow down sometime and if you look at other countries take-up rates there has been such a point almost everywhere.

I'm still confident that we have enough carrots and sticks in place to get us past 80% and in fact I think we'll get to mid 80's or higher but would agree we'd need both the carrots and the sticks to do so.

We might get the COVID Shield Vaccine Sentiment report next week

Our LGA is now at 81% first jab and 49% double, so doing our bit.

Some more news to be announced today on even more mandatory vaccinations:

New mandatory jab rule expected to be announced by Victoria

Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to announce a new plan today that will see truck drivers going into ‘red zones’ and coming back into Victoria required to have their Covid-19 vaccinations.

The Herald Sunreports the government told the freight industry late on Wednesday night that drivers must have at least one dose of the vaccine by September 23.

Common sense stuff that, with any respectable level of coordination between levels of government and the private sector, could have been achieved months ago.

Another misinfo text from the coughweasel leader of the yellow and black party.

Is there anything I can do to publically express my disgust at such a miserable excuse for a human being?
And you can’t even unsubscribe from the texts linking to vaccine misinformation. I blocked the number, and they just moved to another number.:mad::mad:

I guess truck drivers make a good starting point. But, why not apply it to the border areas. Allow the fully vaccinated to cross without interference. In the case of the Murray, vaccination levels on both sides of the river are pretty much the same, and there’s negligible (i.e. zero) covid on either side.

The problem with common sense though, is that it’s anything but common.

Craig Kelly's mobile number has been widely publicised if you want to let him know.

Ironically, 2.5 years ago the UAP used an unsolicited political SMS to say they'd ban unsolicited political SMS!

well, they did not respond at all when I asked them to stop sending messages to me. I blocked them. They just used another number. so annoying.

This is just a bot sending the messages out so the number would be unattended. However as noted both Craig Kelly and Clive Palmers mobiles have been published, imagine if everyone forwarded these texts to them.

covidlive is reporting 64.8% for first dose and 40.1% fully vaccinated for 16+.

So we are over half way to the 80% fully vaccinated target!

I can't see yesterday's numbers on health.gov.au yet.

We have reached 65.38% first dose for 16+ and importantly 40.4% fully vaccinated over half way to the crucial 80% target.

60-64 has reached 50.6% fully vaccinated, so every age group 50-54 and up has over 50% fully vaccinated.

30-34 has reached 51% first dose, so every age group 30-34 and up is past 50% for first doses.

89.97% of 70+ have had their first dose, so that surely will go past 90% when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

We should pass 60% of 50+ fully vaccinated when today's numbers are released tomorrow.

Over 70% of NSW 70+ are now fully vaccinated

VIC first doses for 16+ jumped from 62.54% to 63.54%. This was the largest increase for yesterday as a percentage of 16+ of any state or territory in the country.

Over 5 million people in NSW have had their first dose.

Most likely due to the current priority access for VCE students which started this week.

All Year 11 and 12 students sitting VCE Unit 3&4 exams can book priority appointments for COVID-19 vaccination until Sunday 19 September. Booking information has been provided directly to eligible families.

This came up indirectly in the NZ thread.

I felt NSW's peak was between 1% and 1.5% first dose.....not true?

I meant the largest increase for yesterday. Yes the peak rate for NSW was higher than that.
