Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

Got some more travel to do to Melbourne this Friday, so hoping to fly down Thursday night to sample the new Hilton.

Inside space is the same as are the views. Does seem as though the balcony is a bit more open. Looks like some wasted or highly likely to be under-utilised spaces as well.

New furniture and carpet.
Cheers. I think the polka poufs are new. Chairs, tables, lamps look original.

Lounge at the Cairns Hilton has reopened. Tried to jag a few pics without people and while the sun was still up. Hopefully will be open longer tomorrow and can get some better pics.

While it is definitely comfortable and a nice space, it is effectively a big room. So all it takes is one loud person or table to ruin the ambience.

All new EL staff the couple of nights I’ve been here so far. But they are great. Will do a fuller report after my stay concludes.

Looks like my senior college common room did 😂

Cairns lounge - some better pics.

This may be old news but hours are 10 to 4 with coffee, soft drinks and packaged snacks. Then 17:30 to 19:30 for canapés.
No longer serving breakfast.

Thanks for the pics, it really helps when considering which Cairns hotel to book.

I think we've seen an end to the lounges that were a nice space to relax or work when travelling. Although this looks like lame, it's miles ahead of what some Aus hotels now call a "lounge" post rona. (I'm thinking Hilton Surfers specifically)

Agree this just looks like leftover old furniture shoved in a random old room. Can’t wait to travel to Asia again - they know how to do lounges :)

Well, an update on the EL on L9 at Cairns for those who haven’t actually been there lately.

New tables (slightly smaller than the previous ones) added to the mix. New carpet with the expansion. I had moved on (the morning of the) re-opening but managed to have a peek inside on the night before I left. The EL looked quite clean and refreshed. It was still a work in progress regarding the final fit-out, wall hangings, etc, I was told by the staff. They have made much better use of the former Boardroom space, by removing the dividing wall and conference table.

The eats that are provided are very good quality, including satay chicken skewers, steamed dim sims, steamed pork buns, prawn finger food, as well as the usual cold stuff, with a rotating menu. The EL staff are outstanding. Very welcoming, with drink refills and food replenishment brought in by the chef. Certainly a better experience than my most recent stays in Brisbane and Sydney.

Received: King Relaxation Room

I stayed for 2 nights at HSP this week. The rooms have been discussed upthread, so I’ll just add some photos of the EL, now on L2, adjacent to the pool area.

Although the EL was not busy in the evenings, the photos were limited so as not to not show the other guests.

The two lounge staff were very attentive. Spirits were available on request.

Edit: The EL is currently operating 2 x evening sessions: 5.00pm-6.30pm, and 6.30pm-8.00pm. Bookings required (through the reception desk).

Thanks for the photos, I am staying tomorrow night. I think going by the rates falling over the past couple of weeks they are hurting occupancy wise at the moment. I first booked a relaxation suite at $475, checked 2 weeks ago and amended it to $375, checked again and went down to $325 and finally checked again yesterday and amended the booking to $293.02. I'm diamond also so will make use of the EL lounge

Hey everyone, I recently made VA Gold via the Discover Gold thingy. As part of the full Gold, I've got Hilton Hhonors Gold? I expressed my interest via the Velocity website yesterday afternoon and there was a message on the screen that someone from Hilton will give me a call and discuss the membership. I have not received any calls or emails re this. I can't login into HH because I don't know if I have an ID created for me yet ... and I don't want to create one myself, because I'm concerned that it might interfere with what HH staff might be doing?

Anyone faced this before? Thoughts?

I've got some interstate travel coming up out of CBR - might use Hilton if the membership is set up ...

Cant really help you in what to do but in hindsight I think you should have opened a Hilton account first. Its easier to attach your VA gold to an existing Hilton account IMO

I've got an email from VA that someone from Hilton will get in touch with me over the next 20 DAYS to discuss the Gold Membership ... 1 day down, 19 to go :)

Booked: Executive City View - 4 nights with breakfast
Received: Executive Bay View - Lounge access

I do intend to write a trip report on my return to quarantine in Melbourne after the Paralympics but thought I would move from a very small room near my workplace at the International Broadcast Centre to have a short 'holiday' and a little bit of luxury at the Conrad between the Olympics and the Paralympics mainly due to many fantastic reviews I have read on this forum.

So I went from this room that I have for 6 weeks - no view at all and 11sm:

2021-08-12 11.14.11.jpg

To this 48sm room with the view - not that the weather is great today.

2021-08-12 14.56.18.jpg2021-08-12 14.57.25.jpg2021-08-12 14.58.14.jpg

Check In a dream although the lobby very busy with locals - have not seen another European yet. Five people interacted positively with me before I even got to my room; check in, making meal bookings ensuring the room was to my satisfaction.

Many hotel facilities closed or restricted due to the Virus and I had to have been in Tokyo over 14 days before I could even check-in. (I was in soft quarantine throughout the Olympics). No alcohol served except in your room - waiting for some wine to arrive. Both the Japanese and Chinese restaurants closed except for the weekends, the Executive Lounge only open for Breakfast at the weekend but also open for afternoon tea and evening snacks but you need to book and get an hour only. The French restaurant is closed completely.

More impressions once I get a chance to see what's on offer. Any recommendations welcome as I have never been to this Hotel before. I'm trying to be careful given the amount of cases in Tokyo and cannot really stay outside the capital but might try a day-trip to Nagano next week.

The Conrad Tokyo is possibly the nicest hotel in which I have ever stayed, and we received upgrades through multiple room classes from the cheapest to the Executive Bay View you ended up in. (This would have been due to a mixture of: booking through Amex Fine Hotels, I have Honors Gold, wife has Honors Gold.) This was in early 2019, so they were the usual kind of busy rather than Olympics-during-pandemic busy.

Enjoy your stay!
