Qantas Points Club Discussion

Agree, so back to the topic we go.

I have been curious about whether QF awards issued by partners receive status credits for Points Club members as I have been hoping to rely on an Alaska award to receive status credits as part of my Fast Track status match for Qantas. (That's because Alaska will charge me just 20,000 miles for BNE-SYD-CNS-MEL-CBR in business whereas QF charges 57,000 for the same itinerary.)

There has been some uncertainty around this point, but after researching this further and seeing various data points from others, I suggested last week that when the partner issues an award ticket on QF metal with a QF flight number and QF fare code, it seems more likely that you'll get the status credits even though you didn't book the award with Qantas Points. Today I also noticed something on my QFF account today from a previous Alaska award on QF-metal:

This award appeared in my QFF account as a "Classic Flight Reward" despite being booked via Alaska points and despite the term "Classic Flight Reward" being defined by Qantas only as a ticket "obtained with Qantas Points", so it appears to support the reasoning above.

It's a bit of a gamble as I'll be using those 20K Alaska points to travel on the above itinerary solely for the status credits, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I'll report back in April when the trip is done.

How many SC will you earn for such a classic reward flight? I received 15 SC for PER-MEL (20 SC for a discount economy paid fare). Is it worked out on miles flown or as a percentage of paid SC? I am interested in knowing, as it might make the difference for booking a reward flight to Japan next year.

Officially 80 SCs in Business according to the Qantas website: Classic Flight Reward tables | Qantas Frequent Flyer
You earn by distance category. It appears QF is awarding slightly more than published for domestic business fares, but no promises there and all other charts are correct as published.

Has anyone had any luck with getting upgrade to PCP when close to it? I'm probably going to be 30k short by anniversary date :(

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Have any existing Points Club members who have again reached the 150,000 qualifying threshold received their complimentary lounge passes? If so when did you receive them, after you reached the threshold again or after your anniversary? I found the details on the Qantas site quite ambiguous.

When I hit the threshold before my previous anniversary I received them promptly but 2 months have passed since reaching the threshold this membership year and nothing has come through.

I'm currently about 30K points short (end Aug expiry), and I could make an effort to get the points to renew without too much trouble, but I wonder if its worth it?

I'll be BA and QF Gold at the end of Aug and I'm struggling to see what extra benefits PC would bring. I'm not planning to renew my QF Gold status in Aug 22, but who knows in the current environment? Any thoughts?

The main benefit to anyone who already has lounge access is the ability to earn status credits on classic reward flights, which can help in keeping status (if you want to).

Id need to earn 35k in 6 weeks to keep points club, that's not feasible especially since I've just had to cancel a hotel stay that would have had serious bonus points. So i will drop out but aim to earn it back via a credit card churn, red energy sign-up and normal send by mid August, just in time to earn SCs on that next reward flight.

Easy... just buy a few cases of wine

I did look at that when they were having specials and free delivery the other weekend, but I'm a Rose drinker and they rarely have bonus points on Rose.

Tis my own fault, I didnt close out my visa card ready for a churn when it was due and now there isnt enough time to get new card and do the minimum spend.

However, I actually figure its better to requalify in mid August (halfway through month one of my FF year) as that will get me points club til July 31 2023, where if I doing a big spend before 31 July 2021, it will only extend me to 31 July 2022.

I'm 17,000 short and have 3 weeks to get across the line, but given I have 3.5 years left on QP and no immediate plans to travel, I'm not sure of the benefits right now. Maybe a wine buy up, maybe not.

I cannot see why you would chase the points club or points club +. If you have BA gold (OWE) and QF gold (OWS) I would be ditching QF SG and start accruing miles/ points to another program. The non transferable QF SG is of no benefit, if it was I would have already given it away on this site as a ‘free stuff’ post.

I assume it will be a bit like maintaining PS status. You get the pass when the anniversary rolls over, not when you requalify.

If it’s worth $208.25 to you, the only1Visa offer starting tomorrow at Woolies is worth a look
Plan is to get ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, its $225 for 120k points. Open in July, points hit in August based on last time i had that card.

I’m WP, but I like to give the passes to family or friends when they fly. It’s a treat for them, or sometimes a real benefit when they have mobility issues.
