The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

There are several loopholes - just check Tik Tok out, some very interesting techniques....

Are these "hacks" inadvertent or a very clever way of stimulating demand? I suspect the former, but the latter could actually be a clever way of pushing up demand in younger groups.

Daily numbers. Massive surge in Aged Care In Victoria in today's reported numbers (so for 1st June) with 9,112 doses given..

Reports are that another person has been infected in age care in Vic, this time someone in their 90s who has been fully vaccinated. The person is asymptomatic. These vaccines save lives.
And this is an example of why we need to be focusing on something other than infections now as our measurement. In the nicest possible way, if a vaccinated person gets it and is asymptomatic (and is 90!!) then why should we all get agitated about the fact that someone has caught it. Only because other people have not been vaccinated - which is why the failures in aged and disability residential care are dreadful and need immediate fixing. As for those who choose not to be vaccinated, then they also assume all associated risks and should not lead to lockdowns etc for their protection that ruin the enjoyment of life for others. Again, this can only apply when people have had the chance to make this choic - but honestly, they started Pfizer for this group in February and it only takes 3 weeks for full vaccination with Pfizer.

Sure do, so why are we even reporting this case is the Dorothy Dixer ;)

Given that Australia is now also committed to Moderna, Moderna could now become an option now for vaccinating the Under 16s with its proposed lower dose option..

Moderna is gearing up to halve the dose of its COVID-19 vaccine, the U.S. drugmaker said on Wednesday, so that it can also be used to combat variants and inoculate children.

Israel's Health Ministry said on Tuesday it had found the small number of heart inflammation cases observed mainly in young men who received Pfizer's (PFE.N) COVID-19 vaccine in Israel were likely linked to their vaccination.
Pfizer has said it has not observed a higher rate of the condition, known as myocarditis, than would normally be expected in the general population.
In Israel, 275 cases of myocarditis were reported between December 2020 and May 2021 among more than 5 million vaccinated people, the ministry said in disclosing the findings of a study it commissioned to examine the matter.
Most patients who experienced heart inflammation spent no more than four days in the hospital and 95% of the cases were classified as mild, according to the study, which the ministry said was conducted by three teams of experts.
The study found "there is a probable link between receiving the second dose (of Pfizer) vaccine and the appearance of myocarditis among men aged 16 to 30," it said in a statement. According to the findings, such a link was observed more among men aged 16 to 19 than in other age groups

Have yet to see any cases of heart issues with Pfizer in Australia, but we are seeing more blood clots from AZ.

SMH Covid Blog (cant link to specific section):

One of the new cases is critically unwell and in intensive care, the TGA said.

How surprising given the number of young males who’ve received Pfizer so far in Australia.

Many of the workers in 1a and 1b are younger males - especially those working in security/cleaning/drivers at HQ, the airport, not to mention at hospitals. Last night as i picked up my takeout from local chinese the owner was saying two of his 21 year old male drivers were already fully vaccinated with Pfizer as their day job is at SYD airport.

I believe that your opinions on AZ and risk are irresponsible

You dont have to share the same risk appetite but you cant dispute pulished numbers of confirmed clots in Australia linked indisputably to AZ vaccine.

How utterly pathetic that you resort to insults and name calling because the facts of more adverse clotting reactions doesnt fit your personal narrative. Try contributing to AFF for once rather than just trolling.

People can assess their own risk appetite based on the numbers, sharing facts is never irresponsible.

According to the Vic news tonight there is a potential shortage for 2nd doses of Pfizer... not sure what that means for those who have already had their first dose? At the time of vaccination they said the second dose is required 3-6 weeks after the first. Cannot get through to book anything ATM :(

Maybe they were counting on the Feds sending them extra Pfizer doses due to the outbreak. However, the outbreak hasn't spiralled so out of control to suggest that that should be necessary.

I got my first dose today and afterwards rang up to book the second one. The main number still terminated my call saying it was too busy again, so I called the other number (which I still didn't see on the website, nor was it proffered in the recorded message in the first call this time) - got through and booked.

And the GP Channel In Vic could easily deliver more doses of AZ per day at present if they had the supply, as they have the demand. (Well they could also do that with Pfizer , but do not yet have access to do that in general).

“GPs can deliver Pfizer, and they need to be given supply,” Dr McRae said.
“The logistic demands of delivering two doses of two separate vaccines are significant and it’s time to give GPs the additional support that they need.“
Mukesh Haikerwal’s medical clinic in Altona North on Thursday became the first general practice in Victoria to begin administering Pfizer shots.
Staff at the Pfizer hub administered 120 doses on Thursday to patients under the age of 50, many of whom had underlying health conditions and had been on vaccine waiting lists for months.
Another batch of 120 doses will be kept in an on-site fridge so every patient who received their first dose would get their second jab within the recommended 21 days.
