Sun Jul 11, 2021:

QF775 - 11:00 - 737 - $1,632
VA695 - 13:45 - 737 - $999

Earlier flts too early - later flts too late - must be seriously good service on QF huh? šŸ¤”

Same same return Jul 15 - tell me this ainā€™t a hangover from April 1?

Unfortunately, theyā€™re also both on 737. The later or earlier flight will get A330. But letā€™s face it, we canā€™t currently go via Singapore ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've been looking at some transcon flights (admittedly in Y) and noticing more of a distinct difference between QF and VA. A meal and wifi are good, but are they worth 50% more?

Unfortunately no Aprilā€™s Fool joke. People keep paying it though.
I know that from ADL, QF J is nearly always a few hundred dollars more and in the case of ADL-MEL it is usually just over double

Qantas needs to price high, so it can then offer discounts to corporate customers.

Virgin no longer targets corporates in the same way. So they simply price at a "discounted level" for everyone. They also avoid the higher overheads of having to intensively manage corporate accounts.

PER -> MEL and vv is my most common flight. I like to use points to fly J, but also far, far, far prefer the A330. So I usually choose earlier flights if I have to, to ensure flying on the A 330. Even if it means not travelling on my preferred day. I had to book a day earlier to go to Melbourne and a day later to fly home this coming Christmas. I also like to book on a day when there is at least one A330 flight after my booking.

I need oxygen when flying and flight attendants insist on me sitting in 7E for easy access to oxygen, if needed. I take my own oxygen concentrator but if it was to break down I would need access to Qantas provided oxygen.

It is difficult flying on a B737 when one needs oxygen when flying.

It seems a waste to pay so much for J if you only get a B737.

Exactly, we are not paying anywhere near that on QF.

QF aren't targeting random retail J class fliers (bummer for us AFF members!) and VA2 are now, so they have to be much much lower.

We get the best rates possible and whilst it narrows the price gap on some routes on many there is still a significant gap

Used pts to secure return PER-MEL VA J on 15/07 - but MEL-PER on 11/07 still a prob.

I want to go to footy Sun nt 11/07 - VA685 J available on pts but cutting it too tight time wise - I donā€™t want to take VA sparrow fart flt ex MEL

No pts J showing on QF775 which is ideal timing - but $1,634 really making me bleed.

I have done my minimum 1,000 Y flts so no chance of sitting down the back if empty seats up front so might just have to ante up with the funds.

VA flights normally have a reasonable of Z (business award) availability - except when there's a footy match on. VA sponsor AFL and actively promote travel to the games.

Take next weekend - I am booked to meet some friends in Brisbane and did so several months ago. While there were always going to be both the Lions and Suns playing up there that weekend, both games have now been fixtured for Saturday and flights back to Vic on Sunday are chockers.

Looking at fixtures, while there is yet no guarantee yet there will be a Game in Perth on Sunday arvo, being the Kangas, it would seem to dictate that 4:40pm (Eastern) time slot.

@Cruiser Elite have you thought about going over Saturday on VA691, 5:45pm?

Yep I have and may do so - but it would just kinda be a waste of a day.

The actual $ cost on QF is not the bit that hurts - I can easily afford the fare - itā€™s more the fact that the $s are going to QF when I would much much prefer to see the $s going into VA coffers just to do my bit to help to ensure VA survival.

I also have great trouble with the QF ā€˜reverse Robin Hoodā€™ business practice of taking from the poor to give to the rich as illustrated by posts above re Corporate pricing. I take great delight in refusing discounts to our customers who roll up to our showroom in a >100K vehicle to test ride our products - but readily offer a 10-20 discount to battlers / have nots who call us and ask us to collect them from the railway station as they have no car to allow them to visit us.

All makes up ā€˜the rich tapestry of lifeā€™ huh?
