Qantas Business Class meals & menus

IIRC, higher status members seated in rows 2 and 3 were offered meal choices first.

I've only seen prioritising orders by status on international flights (and possibly transcon) where the FAs walk through the cabin to take orders, then individually deliver meals.

On golden triangle legs where meals are served on a single tray from a cart in the aisle, I've only ever seen service run row by row in numeric order.

I have a J flight booked BNE-MEL next week. Disappointing.

Also, I f-ing HATE that I can't ever get a seat forward of Row 3. The number of times they get to me and they've run out of the choice I want is unforgivable.
Just wait until T-80 to see how the seat map looks

I wonder if the cheese plates were left overs from that leg? It was a fairly full cabin, I hope they didn't run out of casseroles because there's no way the cheese was a sufficient dinner.

Flew Mel - Syd on the 737, same choices of cheese plate and beef slop. And the beef ran out at row 3.

The other direction, Syd - Mel lunch service had the same beef as well. Though I think it was cous cous instead of mash on that leg.
 
It is rare but it does happen (status taken into account). I recall a flight I think SYD-BNE or SYD-OOL where I was in row 3 (by choice) and CSM came and asked me what choice I would like so they would save one. I only wanted a drink so all good for the others.

Definitely agree T-80 and grab a seat more fwd (hopefully) but then again if the meals offered don't inspire then just eat in lounge or in BNE and not worry? :)
 
Bar was quite limited as is the current trend, but sufficient.

No butter, no crackers or cheese, no sliced sourdough... And an insufficient bar service.

Qantas needs to bring back its full beverage range, including spirits. I think it is a disgrace to have the same bar service in J as they do in Y (on south-east capital city weekday flight after 4pm)!
 
Qantas must be getting a bulk discount on those garlic loaves
I am wondering, compared to the sourdough, if they are;
  • cheaper
  • lighter (less weigh onboard)
  • don't require butter to be supplied with them (cheaper+)
  • create an aroma in the cabin as they heat up prior to service, like what might come from a restaurant kitchen, which adds to the sensory theatre of the service.

I much prefer those to sourdough.
 
Service was not done by row order on our flight on Sunday. When we checked the day before only two other seats were occupied. They and us were served first, followed by the remainder of the (full) cabin.
 
Also remember a number of passengers were advised, the FA will return shortly to take their meal choice. Assume these were subloads maybe?
In my experience when the FA hands out a drink and plate with bread to PAX and says I will back the PAX are normally off duty QF staff.

Also looking at the some of the recent photos the QF J offering of 'Beef steak and mash'(slop) seems to be a current staple, I have been offered this on 4 of 6 flights during the past week.

I've certainly had meal prioritisation on domestic J 737, A330 and 747 (PER-SYD) flights when not sitting in the first row when WP and P1.

Not only asking me for my order first and serving me first, but once the popular toasted sandwich option was "held" for me in row 3 (737) as a P1. Either that or it was a coincidence that I got the last one - I didn't hear the orders of the rows in front.
Never sat in row 3 as a WP so I don't know if that was due to P1.
 
There are still no special meal options. I’m flying PER-MEL-LST next Monday so hopefully can make a gluten-free toasted sandwich in the business lounge before boarding (I have coeliac disease). I will also carry G/F muesli bars. (And an e-book!) I used to eat breakfast in the lounge rather than the offering on board, but don’t know what’s being rolled out in lounges currently.

Limited SPML will be available from the 16th and GFML is one of the options. This only applies to J.

AFAIK you cannot make sandwiches yet in the lounge. It's still set menu items that you have to ask staff for

Then I’ll ask for the sandwich to be made. There will be g/f bread out the back.

The Spice options in MEL J are never gluten free anyway, although butter chicken certainly should be. I wonder if it will be on the menu on my return trip?
