So today we telephoned Service NSW to enquire about getting a permit to enter NSW to take our sheep from our address which is a few hundred meters out of the border zone, to Corowa sheep yards, which in over the river and in the border zone. What ensued has left a very bitter taste in my mouth, and tomorrow every politician and news outlet is going to hear about it.
It went as follows..... "We are sheep producers and need a permit to take sheep to Corowa Sheep Market. NSW: your address is outside the zone, you will need to enter the state via Sydney airport. Us: We are farmers on the border and you want us to take a load of 40 lambs by plane to Corowa? NSW: Yes. Us: You want us to drive 6 hours to Melbourne with 40 sheep? NSW: Yes. Us: You want us to put 40 sheep on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney and then transport them from there to Corowa Sheep Market on the border? NSW: Yes."
I **** you not, this is for real.
#DanielAndrews you promised the people of Victoria they would still be able to buy meat. You let this **** go, they won't be buying lamb.
#GladysBerejiklian fix the border zone/region/bubble what ever the hell you want to call it and do it soon, better yet, re-open the bloody borders for ALL FARMERS regardless.
#MLA get all over this NOW before it becomes an animal welfare issue.
I think they should take the sheep to Melbourne Airport and use a drover to bring them up the ramp to the QF or VA terminal - it would make for a great story on the news.

In a similar vein being banned from returning home to SA if for some reason I have to go to Vic, I would have to fly to Singapore/Doha and study at Adelaide Uni and then I could get back home again. Might have to take on foreign citizenship as well.

Comment on Daylight savings and Queensland other than a brief mention relevant to QLD handling of COVID-19 issues, ongoing discussion becomes off topic for this thread. Please continue elsewhere if you feel the urge.

Would via NT quarantine be easier?

Edit: if in emergency they force you off the plane at Melbourne, don’t leave airport and go straight to NT. You avoid NT quarantine I think but need to have a 14 day holiday to get back to Adelaide.

Another reason NT has the most sensible rules lol.

Reported now on ABC online

Thanks. The story is much the same as I understood from the radio.

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services decided to allow some staff at a meatworks to skip the ordinary self-isolation period after their COVID-19 test, so it could remain partially open despite several infections amongst staff.

In messages seen by the ABC, a worker at JBS Brooklyn was told to return to work after taking a COVID-19 test but before he received the result
Victoria's DHHS says workers at the plant who were not considered close contacts of infected workers and who were not feeling unwell, could return to work without the usual isolation period

JBS Brooklyn in Melbourne's west has closed all but one section of the plant — its second shutdown in a month due to new coronavirus cases — raising questions from workers about the company's infection control methods.
...
The instruction is part of updated public health guidelines released by the Communicable Disease Network Australia on August 12 and applies to sectors where there have been outbreaks, including meatworks, poultry and aged care.

Melbourne general practitioner Dr Vyom Sharma said he was not confident in the DHHS' decision.

"We know it's been a problem in the past, we know there are problems with workers living together, socialising and the very nature of the meatworks itself makes social distancing very difficult," Dr Sharma said.
...
The move has also been criticised by Australian Medical Association (WA) president Andrew Miller.

"We should not be testing people and sending them back to work before we know the results," he said.

I'm no expert, but allowing an exemption 'so the works can remain partially open' seems a bit inconsistent to me. After the Cedar meats fiasco, I wonder if the press are looking into possible donor connections?

The weirdness of SA is that they consider a transit stop at Tulla the same as being in the state. I think that's a unique SA requirement and I'm surprised it hasnt caught out others before now. So the NT thing would be a great plan.

Having thought about it more, I don’t understand why any State refuse entry from any location if the traveller is ok to pay for mandatory quarantine. Economically the hotel gets paid, the risk of transmission is mitigated. All win?

Cross border communities, freight, agriculture, critical medical care, maybe even airline crews is another issue where doing the mandatory quarantine is less feasible.

No if I transit via MEL now going to Tasmania as an essential worker I won't be able to self isolate at the provided accommodation and still be able to go to work-but only to work.
Tasmania has said they will not take any health care workers from NSW and Victoria at present to fill any vacancy.

Agree. Even that isnt an option. We will be refused entry. Sent back. To ??? Homeless state? Yet bring in 300 foreigh citizen students from Covid hotspots - come on down.

As a normal person not an essential, we would be banned and flown "back" if we just transitted at Melb Airport. If Sydney or ACT airports we would be able to enter, must be covid tested immediately, self iso, then covid tested again on Day 12.

NSW headline number is 5 new cases.

Of the 5 new cases reported:
•2 are returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine
•3, all located in South Western Sydney, are locally acquired

More detail on the three locally acquired from ABC covid live blog quoting NSW CHO

The three cases outside of hotel quarantine are all are locally acquired.

"That includes one who is a household contact of a previously reported case, associated with the July funerals cluster, bringing that cluster to 74 cases," Dr Chant said.

"One case is an outpatient at Liverpool Hospital. That's a lady in her 60s. She was mentioned yesterday in the press conference. Links with other cases and the source of infection are being investigated. We're looking at community exposures as well as any links to previous cases that have occurred linked to Liverpool Hospital.

"There was also one gentleman in his 20s who, again, source was unknown."

As a Tas resident, I can transit MEL airport, or even drive through Vic directly, say onto the boat and the requirement will be to isolate at home. If I really want to travel (say to AFF in December, if the restrictions continue), I am OK with 2 weeks at home afterwards.

Each state has got some increasingly stupid rules. Tasmania's is the blanket travel restriction, forecast for 3 more months, irrespective if you are flying direct from say WA or SA (if WA was possible) and the maintenance of the State of Emergency, even when no community transmission for 3+ months, "in case...". The media here has been trying to find out what exactly the 'health advice' is such that coming in from SA isn't allowed without 2 weeks iso, but all they get is the blanket weasel words. Actually, it seems because SA allows returnees from the dreaded QLD. Pushka, they are looking at you! :) 😆

The more this goes on, the more all the Premiers getting used to exercising arbitrary power in the name of COVID control. 'Mussolini' and 'Gutwein' are being mentioned in the same breath down here.

Will you be putting AFF on the back-burner, however briefly, and soaking up your wonderfully relaxing surroundings in FNQ? 🤭

Edit: Other than for posting more about your trip of course. 😀

TAS is certainly the envy of at least two other states. 😉
