The "I am in self-isolation" thread

My SIL is being moved into Centrelink after Easter which should be interesting.

Interesting. I gather some 5,000 or more would be transferred laterally or on temporary higher duties or hired ?

From which Agency if I may ask ? Doubt it would be the ATO, for example ? I asked my former workmates

I don’t have a hearing impairment, but I find myself strangely drawn to watching the very expressive faces of the Auslan interpeters during any media announcement from the PM.

Well self-isolation appears to be agreeing with me, have lost 4kg in the last 2 weeks. I'm especially happy with that knowing that one of the medications I'm currently on, has the #1 / most common side effect being weight gain, which has been stressing me out a bit. 6 days to go....

I have also been 'flattening the curve' and believe that I have achieved it now. It has taken about 3 years but I finally have a flat stomach. Being told to 'flatten the curve' 20 times per day was all the encouragement I needed to finish the project.

Any tips? That's probably the only thing I've got left too and some small teeny tiny love handles..... :p

Where I work now we have several Deaf people and interpreters are frequently in our meetings. While the protocol is that you watch the person speaking I also like watching them.

My goal is to make them laugh. I have succeeded.

When I started we had a session about how to speak to our Deaf colleagues using the interpreters and it was explained by the Deaf presenter that they interpret every sound including farts.

My comment 'the reason they smell is so you can enjoy them' was nearly the end of them, and the presenter.

I’d like to thank all of you who took self-isolation seriously.
Great Job

Over to Victoria now where health minister Jenny Mikakos is giving an update. She says police carried out 391 checks on return travellers and of those 99 people were not at home. She says:

That’s incredibly disappointing. Those individuals are putting their fellow Victorians at risk.

Sounds like “law unto themselves” woodducks or this was a very rude word where giving the big V (rude in itself) was replaced by PR....

Gosh, I've just been googling 'learn sign language'.

And people get upset about the housing of new arrivals into hotels for 14 days. Sheesh.

I don't understand why you'd want to make them laugh? Isn't that totally distracting for them? What am I missing here?

Well I've done the 14 days and wasn't too bad. I had planned to re-catalogue one of my hobbies when i retired, but brought it forward a few years and finished most of it in 9 days so had something to focus on. Also wonderful to get the brain to stop thinking about the next work-trip, booking, timing, etc. I can just feel the stress level has dropped that much and it feels good.
Been tied up in our apartment in the city so great to walk up to Woollies early to buy some fresh food, so it was a shock to see the quiet streets and closed shops. And walking past all the people with their heads down i started to say hello to everyone i saw which felt good.

Getting fed up with TV, but strange tonight watching an ad for a head lice treatment product after all the news on what a chemical in one of the products does to the virus. Always the marketing angle!!!!!

Not all of the meetings are serious, some are just fun catch ups with lots of frivolity in these hard times.

The interpreters do have a hard job but they are human and as much as we're supposed to ignore them they do appreciate appropriate acknowledgement.
