Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

I have received three credit vouchers. I’d really like to use multiple vouchers to a book a flight In the future Does anyone know if this doable? Thanks
You may have to pay $40 each to merge the vouchers but if they ask you to do that just HUACA and you may get someone different - this happened to me last year

In reality, there is no free cancellation (unless your original fare conditions allow this), there is only a "free change" under certain conditions.
I had this thought last night it was some bean counter's idea of locking in funds before further bulk flight cancellations occur over the next months.

I have three flights across June and August that have already been advertised as being cancelled (QF37/QF38), but are still showing (albeit 0'ed out).

There is no change they could make with regard to current schedules that would not be a 'significant disruption' to me. Once they really cancel, I will do so and get a full refund rather than take a voucher.

Yes. Certainly does! 😬

Since the vouchers retain the same PNR (flights booked during DSC), does it also mean that if the same voucher will also retain DSC provided flights booked within the DSC flight period (ie 14 Feb 2021)?

Delta are apparently doing something similar to QF (allowing you to cancel and keep the fares in credit for 12 months) - the big difference is they have said if after 12 months you haven't been able to use the vouchers, they will give you a full refund. Would be nice to see something like this from Qantas.

If you currently have an international booking that you'd like to cancel for a refund (rather than getting a credit voucher), I do have to wonder if you wouldn't be better off waiting for the flight to just be cancelled? With this morning's announcement of a 90% cut in international capacity, it's inevitable. That is, unless Qantas decides it won't refund your money if your flight gets cancelled (like Austrian Airlines has done with one of my bookings)...

Yes, I have been thinking the same thing. I was supposed to go to Auckland this weekend for the NRL / Super Rugby double header and I have requested a voucher for that flight.

My thinking was come Friday the flights will still be going or at worst they would argue they could put me on another SYD - AKL flight.

However, we have a trip to Europe planned for May booked through Qantas but on both Emirates and Qantas metal. If those flights are cancelled all together will they have to provide a refund rather than a credit?

Please ignore. Query has been answered in the DSC thread.

If there is no change they could make to reaccomodate you that would not be a 'significant disruption' you should be able to get a full refund rather than take a voucher.

The way I read it (from various Qantas emails and notifications, along with anecdotal evidence):

For paid Qantas, Qantas Group and Qantas Partner tickets booked via Qantas prior to March 10, 2020:

Bookings cancelled "up to" March 31 2020 (I'm assuming it means March 31 2020 23:59:59) for existing travel bookings up to May 31, 2020 (which may be confusing if your actual fight departure time is June 1 2020 1:00 am for example):

Option 1: Cancel and request equivalent value credit voucher. Voucher valid for use 12 months from date of original ticket*. When voucher is used, change fees are waived. (i.e "Free Change")

"For use" is ambiguous but my understanding is in this case it means booked and travel commenced.
There's a lot of people confused with this particular "clause", as the Qantas help desk and call center have been giving differing advice. Some pax have been told 12 months to re-book, others are told travel must commence with 12 months from the original ticket date.

Option 2: Cancel and request refund. Refund is minus any applicable charges as per fare conditions of original ticket. (Not a "Free Cancellation" unless your original fare allows)

Bookings cancelled after March 31, 2020
Option 1: Cancel and request equivalent value credit voucher. Voucher valid for 12 months from date of original ticket*. When voucher is used, change fees are applied. (Not a "Free Cancellation")
Option 2: Cancel and request refund. Refund is minus any applicable charges as per fare conditions of original ticket.(Not a "Free Cancellation" unless your original fare allows)

For points tickets:

Bookings cancelled up to March 31 2020 for existing travel up to May 31, 2020.
Option 1: Cancel and pay the points cancellation fee. Taxes, charges etc are refunded. (Not a "Free Cancellation")
Option 2: Change the date of travel and the change fees are waived. (i.e "Free Change")

Bookings cancelled after March 31, 2020
Option 1: Cancel and pay the points cancellation fee. Taxes, charges etc are refunded. (Not a "Free Cancellation")
Option 2: Change the date of travel and pay the change fee. (Not a "Free Change")

*Vouchers from cancelled Jetstar flights must instead be spent within six months of the cancellation being actioned – not six months from the date of original purchase – and can be used for travel within 12 months of the new booking date

Now, I have also read that if you make a booking after March 10 and before March 31 for travel up to May 31, 2020 on Qantas or Jetstar, all cancellation fees are waived for bookings cancelled up to May 31, 2020 and your voucher has the same restrictions as above. ("Free Change")

So, in summary:
If you booked before March 10 for travel up to May 31, you have until March 31 to action the "free change" and
If you booked after March 10 for travel up to May 31, you have until the date of travel to action the "free change".

In reality, there is no free cancellation (unless your original fare conditions allow this), there is only a "free change" under certain conditions.

In terms of the 12 month rule, it's a little complicated. My understanding is that if you reissue to same type (ie domestic to domestic or international to international), it's the original booking date that determines the 12 months. But if you reissue to a different type (ie domestic to international and vv.) then you get 12 months from the date of reissue. In all cases, you need to reissue before the original ticket expiry (ie 12 months).

Is there a simple place I can read the fare rules to find out the cancellation fee? At first glance I am blind and can’t see it.

thanks in advance

A work colleague has a trip booked for US in May would still like to go but doesn't want a voucher.
Waiting for the flights to change significantly and ask for a full refund.
Maybe one reason that Qantas aren't releasing a schedule for April and beyond so that they haven't got to refund people but making it easy to defer travel for now and Qantas keeps your money.

Fees vary with fare conditions, which vary with travel class (economy, business, first) and fare type (red e-deal, flexi etc). This is a page that acts as an index:

Thank you

From memory you see this stuff when you are initially booking, however once booked it’s not front and centre.

I have an economy flight booked via QF on EK so I was hoping to be see somewhere easily in the booking what the fee would be.

I'm in a similar situation with a different preference. Have a trip to the US booked, travelling late April to early May. Still want to go - as long as the events I'm booked to attend in the US, the purpose of my trip, aren't cancelled. If they are cancelled there's no point in going of course. But I may not know whether they're going ahead or not until April.

However I do want the voucher in order to retain the DSCs. Thinking about cancelling before the end of March in order to get the "no change fees" credit voucher, and then booking a flight for originally booked dates once (if) I get confirmation that the events are on. Hopefully there'll be some bargains to be had and I don't pay any more than my original flights cost.

I don't know for sure, but I assume that the fees outlined in that index page I linked to include Qantas marketed (partner-operated) as well as Qantas operated flights. This is because some of the conditions have a little note against them like "On Qantas operated flights", suggesting the conditions generally apply to partner flights as well. For instance, this table for QF flights to the middle east:

Hello Fellow Flyers.
I'm just looking for some advice.
If i booked a Sale Economy return flight from Canberra to LAX next month and Qantas cancel it, am i entitled to a full refund?
Or will i have to take the Travel Voucher they have on offer at the moment.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Craig

You think they were referring to just you or everyone cancelling award flights for travel up until the 31st May ??

They told me anyone cancelling a reward up to the applicable dates, will have the 6000 points refunded. They said it was a manual process and expect to wait 1-2 weeks

How are people getting through to Qantas? Phone line >5hrs wait, webchat dead. facebook dead. I really need to get a change that was done yesterday ticketed... any thoughts?
