I am trying to book a flight to Europe on Etihad without doing a multi city booking.
The first leg is arriving at 6.00am and my preferred choice of the next leg to Barcelona is 2.00am the next day so I can look around Abu Dhabi. This is also the next direct flight available but the browser wants me to go on other flights via other European cities to get to BCN.
Any thoughts apart from going through a TA

You would have to call the contact centre. Otherwise a TA.

yep this is what I had done when I did PER-AUH-SFO and JFK-AUH-PER a few years back.

They had a sale for business about $4,200 which only worked when I did a return on the website, not multi sector. Call centre were amazing and got me the exact flights I wanted. I also chose a 12 hour connection in AUH rather than the default 2 hour on the way back, so I could do a day trip in AUH. ( I tried doing a stopover in AUH on the way back but the price did jump then and they couldn't/wouldn't make that attractive)

Call centre agent matched the $4,200 sale price for the Perth - USA return and no telephone fees. Paid on credit card on the phone.

Phone call to Etihad was...

on this particular occasion it increased the price a fair bit

hmmm - I suspect that may be your problem then. If the multi-city is forcing a higher fare, it likely means the flights you want are sold out in the particular fare class you are looking for (ie, only seats at a higher price are available).

Phone call to Etihad was also answered near instantly (after pressing the business option lol).
