Does anyone know if there are any SYD to WLG flights using an A330 rather than a B737

Agree with @jase05 however the A359 may be a newer aircraft on the route. I seem to recall it was a 777 with the older style regional J seats. Out of MEL it is an early flight similar to and now longer flying EK380.

Yes, SQ changed from the 777-200 to the A359 on Nov 1.
To the best of my knowledge NZ doesn’t even operate a wide body from WLG to Australia

Sorry, does that mean the 777/ 359 does not come back to AU, where does it go. Sure I fly a bit but most flights are based on what works for me rather than plane types, most of my flights are fly direct type travel.

Sorry for the confusion.
Singapore Airlines (SQ) provide the MEL-WLG and return service with the A359
Air New Zealand (NZ) don’t provide a wide body service between Australia and WLG to the best of my knowledge. I think they only run A320’s

Long winded waffly, and a bit (lot maybe) off topic here.
The SQ350 as in plane is the only wide body that flies Au to WLG, NZ.
The plane leaves MEL very early in the morning, and then does about a 1.5hr layabout in WLG, and then comes back to MEL in the early afternoon, then leaves for SIN early evening.
That flight is not everyday, so if you want a wide body from Au - WLG, you have to fly SQ and only on certain days of the week.
Their subclass of J fares is very good, join SQ KF if you do it regularly, its a good way to earn PPS value.
About $58x per one way from Aust to WLG, QF is normally $699 on their J from Au - WLG on the 737.
Have done both.
The SQ SK lounge and the AirNZ Koru, do the KF first, and then the Koru, is very good, better than the basement.
MEL SQ KF lounge is a bit warmer, as they put their air cond on a higher temp, the Koru is a bit colder, as in aircond.
If you book the SQ J, book early, you can get a bit cheaper fare, you get access to KF and also Koru at MEL T2.

I flew with SQ to Wellington on their 777. Perfectly good flight. It was an older cabin, but to be honest, I’m not a fan of their (and QF’s) new cabin fit. When I did the trip, the SQ business fare was half of what the alternative wanted to fly in a 737. Easy choice.

QF only fly the A330 for special high volume reasons, such as a Wallabies game at Wellington. Last flight IIRC was for the 2011 RWC match. During the run up to Christmas QF would just put a third daily 737 to/from SYD and maybe a BNE flight as well.
Other than SQ all other widebody flights have been for extraordinary reasons, eg earthquake evacuation flights or the flyout backlog of passengers due to lengthy fog delays.
