Most outrageous. It seems QF QLD have learnt how to do PB and Priority luggage.
Both TSV on Friday and BNE yesterday most of the premium line boarded before the first from Y line.
Not only that bags out in first 10 both times.

What am I going to be able to complain about now. ;) o_O :D:D
Fake news surely?

I saw an ad for Red Energy offering a very generous 15,000 QF FF points for switching to them.... that's almost enough to get a return SYD-MEL which of course can retail for as low as $240....

Perhaps they are also using work experience kids from the local high school to do their marketing, but I wonder if they have any idea about how little 15,000 points can get you? Personally, for me to be tempted the points need to be able to buy an international Y ticket or an international J upgrade - so we are looking at a 60k minimum...

I guess the average energy-consuming punter may not be as aware as a Platinum-level member, regardling how worthless a single airline loyalty point is?

The hilarious thing is that the ad features a family of 4 with the bags all packed, smiling away..... I just don't think they are going anywhere on 15,000 points... seems a bit sad really - they look so excited :-(

They've turned up at the check-in counter, packed & ready to fly, each point carefully & individually printed on a separate piece of A4 in order to book & pay-for their family trip to Bali … 😁

OMG, so I don't need to meticulously gather points from multiple sources to pay for my flying needs but can instead just demand single sign on bonus' that will cover my entire travel needs?
outrageous!

Gee, you travel cheap. It takes at least 4 sign-on bonuses for me to barely cover my annual travel needs. :)

Here is another pet hate of mine.......

A friend of mine and his wife, not frequent flyers by any stretch, but avid points hoarders, recently redeemed 2 years' worth of carefully hoarded points on EK F from Sydney to Dubai.

As QF Bronze members, this was their first ever visit to the QF First lounge, and first ever experience of First class.

I was completely gobsmacked by their dismissive review of the experience. Emirates F was not as good as they expected... the food wasn't great... the showers were "tiny"... the IFE was just "OK"... the bar was "small"...

When I asked them what they expected they didn't really know but thought it would be better than what they got.....

Obviously anyone that spends any time in the air would know that EK F is pretty good - arguably one of the best and definitely in the top 5. But if it can't impress Bob and Sheryl from Dapto - what's it doing wrong????

I think this: when people who never fly use points to purchase things that would normally cost $10k, they have no appreciation for the actual cost, and nothing to compare it to. Therefore their opinion should be considered fake news.

There. I said it.

^ I'm not a frequent flyer & I didn't really rate EK F the one (return SYD-AKL) time I flew it either ... I don't think it's a lack of appreciation for how much it costs, it's kinda the opposite, I struggled to see the value in how much extra it costs.
Now our tickets were dirt, dirt cheap for F, and it wouldn't have taken THAT much effort to have consumed more than the difference between F & Y in booze alone, but I couldn't help but consider what a longer-distance flight in F would cost c/f J, and (to give examples) the fact that the food was only about on par with an average (not a good) $30-mains restaurant & while the wine may have been expensive it seemed like it'd maybe been chosen based on how expensive it was rather than how good it was.

Maybe it was because I'd previously been in the SYD QF F lounge, and expected the food to be at least as good as that? But I've never complained of the SYD QF F Lounge … I have the AKL one, Emirates J smashed it. :)

Is that you Bob?
I cannot believe - I WILL not believe - that you didn't rate EK F even on the short haul from SYD to AKL????? :)
I routinely took that flight for the extra SC (of course) and because it was also awesome. I am keen to hear what you didn't like about it... the free pour Dom? Food is hit or miss on any airline - just look at the page on this forum dedicated to people complaining about First class menus... lol the absolute definition of first world problems!

Don't you rate the bar at the back? I'm sorry but anyone that doesn't like the bar at the back of EK business has something wrong with their heads or just doesn't understand the concept of a BAR IN A FRIGGIN PLANE AT 40,000 FT!

Bob from Dapto actually said "the bar at the Dapto RSL is bigger"... I think he entirely missed the point!

I guess my point is this: if we have become so jaded that even those that have never experienced first class cannot even appreciate it, then we are a sad bunch. My dad, who flew a few times on the Concorde back in the day, commented that today's travelers would hate it because it has none of the creature comforts that we have today. No IFE. Seats as big as those in a Dash-8. Most people wouldn't be able to see past those shortcomings to the fact that it's flying more than twice the speed of sound....

Bob and Sheryl would have hated it for sure.

:-(

I didn't dislike it, I just … expected more over half-the-price J, I guess (note: J was about double the price of F on these flights!).
I'm not a champagne bloke, my better-half has an opinion on EK vs QR champers but I can't remember what that is. :)
But the wines were only OK & not outstanding (the QF SYD F lounge carafe red was better than the 3 reds I tried onboard), the food only average.
The extra space was a welcome thing, before that flight I'd only been on QF semi-recline for long-haul, and a KL long-haul 10yrs ago which was like current QF 738 J. But then wandering up the back, J had barely any less room, and I flew CI J for half the price of EY J last year & was just as comfy as EY F there (and with a better IFE screen - albeit with much dodgier IFE :)).

I'm comparing with J, that gets this exact same service!
Really the only thing I could see was a big step-up over J was the shower. I mean - a shower, in the air. AKL's too short to enjoy it, but that's pretty Smurfy. But in real-world terms, J gets a shower at the airport beforehand.

Aye, and I guess there's the rub. I don't know if it's "jaded", it's just spoiled!
I'm not sure … but I think I'd prefer 10hrs in even a 747 with a full recline J seat of current specs & top-tier airline IFE, for half the price of a Dash-8 seat with no IFE for 5hrs. Although I'd have tried the fast Dash-8 once, at least.

The comment about the shower is probably 'fake news'. But they probably have no point of comparison. But the bar is actually small. The food isn't really all that good.

Whether or not EK is in the 'top five' would be arguable. AF, SQ, LX and LH would be in the top four. Next in line? JL, EY, QR or EK?

That LH comment is interesting, MEL_Traveller. I only have one experience in domestic J with them and one in Y; both were sub QF, sorta like driving the absolutely most reliable & unbreakable base-model Hyundai. And the J lounge experience was FRA, probably their most jam-packed lounge (“lounges” - tried a couple).

But that was over a decade ago, have they upped their game & vaulted many others (as airlines do) - or are you talking about F Stuff which I’ve never seen?

Long haul J on LH in't bad, (once they got rid of the angled flat beds) but definitely not in top 5.

LH F you'd think you were on a different airline compared to their J offering.

I feel the same about Trip Advisor or any of the self-appointed "influencers". Seldom is any of the tedious "information" actually worth reading.
