I guess I'd get a personalised DSC before Dec
Ah Ha! I'd be very interested to hear if that comes through for you because I'm in almost the same boat. I renew on 26-Jan, and by Nov/Dec I'll be around 1250 SC. Trying to get to plat because I've got multiple intl trips coming up next year and want to take advantage. I've already got one small SC run/weekend away to AKL lined up, may do another (NZ is a totally excellent weekend trip). Maybe we should have started a "NZ SC run special interest group"! :)

Obviously no guarantees with such things but if it comes through for you then it'd be good knowledge that I'd like to tuck away.
Please stay in touch!! :)

Re the SC's : Do note that for every 500 SC on QF/JQ (SC's earned as part of the double status credit promotion do not count), one would get loyalty bonus of either 50 SC or 8000 points. Account that as well and include in your 1250 tally,

Re status runs : I'd be interested to know how yours went. I'm sure you'd have booked the trip to make use of a DSC ? As I mentioned earlier, I found a SYD-CHC return in Discount J for roughly A$950 that'd give 320 SC during DSC. What about yours?

Re NZ SC Run SIG : I'd be more than happy to be a part of it :D

Just keep an eye on the T&Cs for any DSC as many of them lately have specifically excluded any DSC earnt from counting towards the loyalty bonus

See example below, all flights during this year were on QF or JQ metal

Yes, I realized it last night and I just got off the phone with QF CC. I didn't read the fine print that SC's earned during DSC don't contribute towards the Loyalty Bonus :(

So althought I've got 600 SC, I only have 300 as far as the Loyalty Bonus counter is concerned.

I have updated my earlier response to reflect this. Thank you @motef for pointing out

Hi all,

Just wanted to get some ideas on the most economic way to get 260 SC by 31 October 2019 (membership anniversary) to attain platinum with Qantas.

Some info:
- Currently gold with 1140 SC (inc. loyalty bonus) and have qualified for gold for another year. 260 SC away from attaining platinum.
- Membership anniversary 31 October 2019.
- I’m based in SYD
- Two confirmed trips before 31 October: 1) SYD-DPS return in September however I’ve (stupidly) booked reward seats with Virgin a few months back (cancelling them would incur 10k velocity points, which isn’t a big deal), 2) SYD-BNE return in October flights not booked yet.

So my current thinking is:
1. Cancel my current SYD-DPS return flights in September with Virgin, pay the 10k velocity points, rebook SYD-DPS return with Jetstar on Business Max, which would give me 250 SC total. Flights about $1880 return.
2. Book SYD-BNE return flights with QF in October on economy sales would give me 10 SC one way. Flights about $500 return (from memory, haven’t checked).

Do you guys think my thinking above makes the most sense given my circumstances?

Can anyone else suggest some alternative cost effective status runs to get me 260 SC?

Thanks y’all

Keep your award flights to DPS on VA and if you have time do a MH run from DPS. DPS-KUL-BKI return in J will get you 240SC’s for around $800.

I'm curious, do you have to book via Qantas website and get a QF flight nbr to get SC for these flights?
(QF website not going ATM so I can't check myself and thought AFF would be easier than reading T+C's).
MH website does confirm the prices (yay!) but doesn't make any mention of SC's.

It does not really matter how booked or how ticketed in relation to SC / points earn with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

In general, points and SC's are awarded based on booked segment route/distance, fare bucket (class), marketing airline and in some cases operating airline..

The MH Biz Promo flights you see book into Z fare which earns Business SC’s.
After you have selected flights and go to the next page you can enter your QFF details and this will then credit those flights to your QFF account.
For a better experience I recommend choosing the A330 for the DPS-KUL legs (there is only 1 a day, the others will be on the 737)
BKI is quite a nice place to stay a few days and accomodation is well priced IMO

Thanks to Serfty's suggestion, I have moved my travel window forward to September.

I need 315 SC's by September 30; I can travel anytime September 1-11 or September 25-30 from YYZ/BUF/DTW.

I am happy to go almost anywhere: other years I have gone to PTY, SJU and BNA. I am also happy to obtain extra SC's as Lifetime Plat is approaching, and getting it while I still fly has advantages.

For September 25-30, I have found YYZ-SJO routes about $1200-$1300 and YYZ-SEA routes about $1350-$1500 to yield 315 SC's

Any other suggestions of destinations or routings or dates?

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. I might not have time to do the DPS-BKI flight as I will going there for a wedding and the Missus will be going with me as well (leaving her alone for 20 hours besides the pool is probably not the worst thing that I’ve done...)

Any suggestions for AU domestic based flights? Can’t really find anything good value besides SYD-AKL return on J for 160 SC around $1k seem ok...

Good idea! But I can only take two days, 3 max.
Garner those 315 SC's with however many segments it requires then PARK it somewhere and use another fare to return home. Go back to parked trip during your next "year" when you have more time.

e.g. ORD-SEA-LAX-AUS-MIA-BOS in D earns 320 SC's - with some fiddling, you could possibly reduce the segments and incease the SC's.

Just made a booking thinking it would qualify for double status credits and earn enough to attain Platinum but double checked the relevant T&Cs and realised the dates will be outside the required travel period.
Now need to do an extra status run -SOON! Any recommendations for a status run EX PER earning at least 110 status credits?
Ideas EX anywhere else welcome as I can reposition cheaply on non-earning flights.

Jeststar max fares PER-DPS or reverse are 50 SC each way. Day return (or a cheap overnight) is possible.
Plus fares DPS-SIN or QF fares within WA will easily get at least 10 SC

Happy wandering

Did you get a targetted DSC promo now?

REVISED:
(1) only need 85 SCs ( I forgot the 50 bonus SCs I will receive when I earn 5 more); and
(2) must be a flight eligible for double status credits - otherwise I willl need 165!
