What to book? JUNIOR SUITE, RIVER VIEW. 36sqmtrs or ARCHIVE SUITE, 33sqmtrs

Archive suite has separate bedroom and is $30 more per night but smaller in size.

And Im breaking a AFFer rule - no FF points earn if I go with this hotel but at this point, Im over freaking Amsterdam accom.

I enjoy doing a Hop On Off on the first day, hubby calls it recon so we can explore more later.

Was planning on going to the Hague - will mention to hubby. We're not into museums but I have my Van Gough tickets already. Went with 9am and hope to beat some of the bus crowd
With timed tickets you bypassed the general admission queue any way.I got mine through the Marriott concierge-at a discount too-and my time was for 2pm.Two busses had just disgorged their pax and i waltzed past them all and straight in.

Well, I got curious and there are zero tickets available for Ann Frank house so I guess its Cheese tasting instead.

There is an odd glitch in their website. My friend went on and looked for tickets and there were none, but I went in via a different section (the introductory tour link) and there were lots of tickets available.

What is it with the price of accommodation in Amsterdam? I need be there for 4nts for a trade show in late Oct and prices off the chart. And it’s not exclusive for the period I am there - outrageous prices for other times also.

I was in Amsterdam same time last year and similar experience. I do not get it - IMHO Amsterdam nothing short of a s**t hole - mind you if they got rid of the dope and the drunken pommies it would probably quite ok - but as it is not so much.

Expensive in December too. Its a popular start and end point for cruises, river and ocean.

@Cruiser Elite when I had a couple of nights in London earlier this year, with eye watering hotel costs ( and FX), I found a place in the outer 'burbs and commuted in.

Possible? Or (electric) bike in? Sorry, couldn't resist. Get her own back on Friday.

You can have a look at the Novotel Amsterdam City. It’s actually in South Amsterdam, about 10 mins from the centre. Easy connection from the airport (RAI station) The hotel - Novotel Amsterdam City

Usual novotel offering. I checked for the 11 days at the end of october and it looks to be about AUD280 a night.

Trks for input guys but central is the only way I roll - getting to / fro trade show daily is a chore within itself - hotel to Amsterdam Central - train to to Schipol Airport - bus to EXPO Greater Amsterdam - so central Hotel location a must.

Yep I could stay at airport but that is just not going to cut the mustard. And it aint that I cannot afford the hotel rates - it's just for such a s**t hole city hotel prices are way overpriced and I just don't it - London I understand - Paris I understand - but Amsterdam? Give me a break.

The novotel is on the train line to the airport, so you wouldn’t need to go into central… it’s 10 mins to the airport from the station next to the hotel.

But to the second point… Amsterdam is big on trade shows! hotels often sell out because they have multiple events on… they actively promote them to be held there. easy to get around, everyone speaks english. Not a bad place to have one.

The DoubleTree Centraal used to be my go to hotel when staying in town. They have some great suites overlooking the city - I scored one once as an upgrade when I was HH Diamond.

But yes, the prices could vary like a roller coaster ride.

There’s always the Ibis Centraal on the other side of the station. There’s a convenient bike rack right outside…😳
