Apologies if this has already been discussed but today arriving in MEL I saw that at the corner near gate 1 Qantas has obtained some retail space and setup a physical Qantas Rewards Store.

Inside they have on display all the literal and figurative toasters than can be purchased with Qantas points.

Thank you. And toasters to boot. :(

I can't work out if this is a good idea or bad idea... too many tos and fros in my mind. Sure, it increases redemptions and reduces liability for those who are inclined to swap their points for a toaster, but surely they are the same people who will just lose them to inactivity a year later and then wait another year to post to QF's facebook page about their hard earned points... unless actual volume of toasters redeemed is reflected in the wholesale toaster price that QFF enjoys. Wouldn't this "shop" make more sense at the exit, so that people can cash in their tokens for toasters after flying back from Bali? Plus this is airport retail space which is the most expensive retail space you'll find. We need a toasternomist to help us make sense of this genius idea.

I give it 12 months.

As someone who will never use it - I don't mind it.

The more toasters purchased hopefully means less people with points to take J redemptions

Had I known I would have checked it out on Monday when I was at MEL...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For those wondering where it is, it's before the first gates on the right, near the CityFlyer desk in the main gate pier (gates 1-12).

Qantas has informed us that the Frequent Flyer Rewards Room will remain at Melbourne Airport until the 30th of June and is open daily from 7am to 8pm.

If you're in MEL, apparently you can earn 100 Qantas points just by popping in and providing your frequent flyer number :)

I visited here today and saw these items that may be of interest for those with children.

I also got my QFF card scanned for 100 points.

I passed it today and there were two people inside...

The two that worked there

Hahaa

Me thinks it’s worth more than 100 points to spend any time in here amongst all the toasters and other overpriced tatt. I go to Harvey Norman for that.

Now, if they had a counter in there where you could talk to a real person and make new bookings / ammendments to existing bookings using points only then it might be worth stepping inside.

It's like there isn't such a thing like using a telephone and calling 13 13 13.

Also sometimes some really good bargains from the store compared to normal retail price. Just have to know where to look sometimes.

I tried to visit this morning. Walking straight past on arrival I figured I’d get my 100 points. Unfortunately it wasn’t open. No sign of opening hours either. I know it’s a weekend but it’s a long weekend in many states so the airports should be busy making it worthwhile to open. Flying home with Virgin so guess no luck for me.
