An experience with cancelling the westpac mastercard? does that auto cancel the Amex, or can the Amex be kept without the mastercard account. Supposed to be separate, but just want to make sure.
Agree, given they are now really seperate cards (rather than a companion card) I see no reason you can't do this.I believe you can hold the AMEX on its own, and you can cancel the Westpac MasterCard through online services.

This is what the Westpac site says, check out the savings tab.I used to have my annual fee paid for/ free as i have a home loan with Westpac but i am wondering if they will still cover the Amex fee now they are split Otherwise i may as well cancel my Altitude Amex and keep my Explorer.
Banks are no longer allowed to offer incentives if you threaten to cancel.and hoping for AMEX to offer bonus points for retaining the card otherwise no point keeping it.

I guess though that this comes down to language, if rather than threatening to cancel you say you are evaluating options (of which cancellation is just one, i.e. you don't explicitly threaten to cancel), can you offer me anything to retain the card?Banks are no longer allowed to offer incentives if you threaten to cancel.
