Hi

I'm looking at a QF rewards booking on CX from SIN-LAX.

The QF booking system selected a CX710 SIN-HKG (8am - 11:55am) followed by a CX884 HKG-LAX (12:45pm dep).

The 50 mins connection time seems very short but given QF/CX system automatically allocates these two flights, I'm assuming CX thinks this is fine. Wondering whether anyone has had issues with catching the connecting flight?

Thanks for the heads up about this. When would you be told you’ve been re-booked?

On landing. Although with my partners mother we saw it had changed in her booking online about 2 hrs before landing. It did make me wonder if she was moved because the flight was oversold.

Having said above, if the choice was risking a tight connection (on same ticket) or booking the next flight 8 hrs away o would always risk the tight connection. If the next flight was only an hour or two later the I might book the longer connection ... and enjoy the lounge :p:)

Overbooking is one scenario (which couldalso be due to irrops rather than oversales). Could also have been that the arrving flight came in earlier than expected and they had proactively re-booked to make sure they guaranteed space on the next flight rather than chance it once the plane landed.

The potential saving CX makes by delaying the passenger on a very short connection is that the bags will be on the later lfight with the passenger, saving both cash on arrival for delayed baggage and having to pay a courier to bring the bag to the hotel/home. Although IME CX doesn't seem too worried about that.

Not convinced by this explanation. On my late arrival with 40min connection I was HLO. With the other one, the two travellers asked for a longer connection than the 8 hrs offered (after coming from AU they didn’t want to hang around airport for 8hrs and then fly on overnight flight) and were given hotel rooms /transport as well.

My point was that aside from an overbooking, the only possible saving for CX not to rush you to your connection if they possibly can would be that they might save a bit of money in not having to pay for bags to be couriered. But IME this doesn't seem to be a very strong motivation.
