My Travel Pro Rollaboard is tired.
It also recently disgraced itself by falling over (again) and tipping swmbo into the adjacent lounge table. Enough!!
I cannot find a cabin bag that keeps the heaviest item (a macbook pro) in balance
Every bag I check out has a nifty way of extracting the laptop for customs and in the process keeps the laptop in the front and out of balance.
Has anyone ever seen a decent quality International size rollaboard with the laptop container in the back ?

I can't suggest a cabin bag with a rear computer pocket but I can say we haven't had a problem with our Samsonite Smarttop Upright tipping over when we have our laptop in the front pocket (our laptop is lightweight at 1.4kg). We bought ours because it is legal size for all dometic flights in Aus. (105cm) and the fact it has a good sized top opening storage pocket (great for iPhones, battery pack etc.). We have the 50cm 2 wheel version which weighs only 1.8kg and there is also a 4 wheel 55cm model. Mrs V reckons it's her best carry on ever. Ours has done 2 RTW trips and numerous domestics and doesn't have a mark on it.

I have just bought 3 more of them today as family presents from luggageonline.com.au for $110 each (clearance sale) with free shipping. We paid $369 for ours 2-3 years ago so at $110 bucks I don't think you could go wrong.

I use a small backpack as a personal item. This has padded laptop storage at the back and is accessible without opening the bag. Similar to this:

I have a similar backpack that has the “slot” at the back of the main pouch which is laptop sized.

When using a rollaboard, I just put the laptop inside the main case rather than in the pouch at the front (for exactly the reason described in the original post).
