Hi,

I am having trouble finding first class award flights to book at saver rates from Australia to Europe. My first preference is the new Suites class but I can’t find even the old A380 first class either at saver rates.

I will know in the next day or so whether I want to travel in mid March or early May and end up in London, Paris, Spain, Zurich etc. We are pretty flexible with the route we take. Nothing was showing up for 2 people.

I also looked in December just to see if anything was available towards the end of the schedule but nothing there either.

I admit that looking one day at a time is a real pain and difficult so if flights are actually available I will use the paid award ticket booking service here on AFF and get some help.

I normally use AwardNexus for searching but KrisFlyer site is not supported by them.

I did also search separately for the 2 legs – SYD-SIN and then onto Europe as happy to do a stopover in Singapore but still no availability.

There was a lot of waitlist possibilities but I presume you don’t find out until very close to departure?

I do have 700000 Qantas points so can do one way on Qantas/Emirates etc but availability wasn’t good there either.

We have enough points for Singapore first return for my wife and I and that is our preference.

Thanks,

Dale.

Your problem is that it is already Jan and you want Suites for flights in March to May.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I had a search for June Departure out of MEL and Return in the first half of July. I did this search about 2-3 months ago.
Only found 12 flights (for 2 pax) MEL-SIN, 4 flights SIN-LHR with Saver seats. None for the other 3 ports.
For the return I found 1 flight CDG-SIN and 1 for FRA-SIN. Didn't bother looking for SIN-MEL.

However, there is a lot of Advantage seats available if you have points to burn.

It is quite hard to find Saver seats and time consuming searching each leg, ex-Aust/ex-SIN/ex-EUR/ex-SIN and then each day. Gotta just be super flexible.

But as others have mentioned, you're looking 2-3 months away, which makes it even harder.

I make tables in excel when searching for flights for my trips. Makes it easier to keep track of what days have what seats and flights available to book/waitlist.

Have you seen AwardFlights (a Chrome extension)? Guide

You install the extension, add details of your SQ/QF/BA/etc (for security reasons I created dummy accounts for the sole purpose of this extension), set one or more departure port(s), one or more destination port(s), set a starting date, set how many days you want to search, and hit 'go'.

It is rather slow, as it mimics a manual search, one day and one port at a time, but you can let it run and come back to it after a while.

Thanks for that. It seems that the best chance of picking up an award is by waitlisting.
I note that contrary to the sarcasm of some replies here that the immediate availability is much the same near the end of the schedule as at my desired dates.
Thanks to those who contacted me privately rather than doing so here.

You seem to take honest advice based on experience as sarcasm. I am not sure why and it was certainly not my intent.

However for the benefit of others (and when I reply to threads I take it that the thread will inform many and not just whomever the OP is), my experience based on many years of redeeming on SQ is that when I book at almost year out I virtually always get what I want.

The closer to departure I book, the less availability on SQ and the more I have to rely on a*A redemption.

Waitlists can be useful, but more for those that have the freedom of not needing certainty in their travel plans. That is not I at present, but once I retire I look forward to dabbling more.

Well if everyone only privately replied the forum would IMO be a much less useful place. People would also keep asking the same questions ad nauseam. Though yes there is certainly a place at times for PMs too.
