Not sure if mentioned recently. Would this be legitimate? Looks legitimate enough.

Qantas SMS said:
Hi, it's Qantas. A Qantas Gift Voucher is yours if you accept our offer to switch all passengers in your booking on QF544 at 6:00 PM on 20 Jan to another flight.

Reply '1' for QF536 at 4:00 PM on 20 Jan ($70.00 voucher per person). Reply '2' for QF562 at 4:30 PM on 20 Jan ($70.00 voucher per person). Reply '3' for QF540 at 5:00 PM on 20 Jan ($70.00 voucher per person).

Do nothing to stay on QF544. Limited offer and availability. T&Cs apply. See Flight switch | Qantas AU Txt STOP to opt out of flight switch msgs.

Looks legit considering the link: Flight switch | Qantas AU
I answered a survey last year from QF about implementing this system and how much money/points should be offered.
Sounds like the end of domestic op-up (about once every 5 years in my case anyway...)

I thought so but you can never be sure.

QF544 looks to be quite full.

At first the $70 may seem trivial - but as I understand it from the discussions I had when this was a manual telephone process from QF is they they often ask the premium flyers on inflexible tickets first - in effect giving those who want to change flights but are stuck with an unchangeable ticket the opportunity to change.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I answered the SMS within 47 minutes of offer and the immediate response was the offer was no longer available.

The $140 for 2 passengers would have been nice as the cost of the flight was $136. I was cursing and then realised my daughter is on separate booking so would the offer have covered both bookings or just mine? My mobile would be in both bookings. Possibly blessing in disguise.

If different booking then it would've only related to the one booking.

I've never experienced over booking on Qantas domestic i.e. never heard for volunteers to up seats which is extremely common on US domestic flights - i wonder if they look at how many flex tickets are booked for the "full flight", I usually have a discount outbound, and flex return ticket for work trips, I probably only end up on my purchased return flight 10% of the time, usually switching to an earlier or later depending on Melbourne traffic.

I think unlike the US they just deal with it better or don't overbook to that extent.

Back when I used to travel between CBR and BNE regularly I'd often book BNE-SYD-CBR for the SCs. Almost invariably I'd be paged in the lounge and asked if they could please move me to the direct flight as BNE-SYD is overbooked.

Of course I preferred the direct flight so happily accepted and then would just put in a request for original routing credit :)

I can just imagine turning up to SYD airport Sunday afternoon on a different flight to 2 year old daughter.
This would fall into the "unintended consequences" basket
It would not be unusual for a travelling party to be on different bookings while travelling together. By the time the flight comes around they may have forgotten about that fact.

Yes quite easily forgotten. Just looking booking a return Airtrain ticket but realising after booking a Gocard would have been cheaper.

P.S. Flight didn't look 100% full.

The vouchers should be in the name of the ticketed pax, so very unlikely to be transferable IMHO. But some people will forget about it (doubt it is going to be auto-linked to their QFF number, that's a manual process the pax will be expected to do). In that way, QF might not actually have to expend some or all of the voucher amount.

I'll be on the lookout for the QF Switch Fairy to SMS me in the future.

Out of curiosity if visited by the switch fairy several times, would one be able to use multiple vouchers to buy 1 ticket?

Possible via the call centre but no guarantee they'll oblige.

Better offer might be a pass to First Class lounge, at least as option. Got one some years ago after QF32. Eggs Benedict snd champagne with waiter service to table. Nice. I am Gold fly a lot of J, but not First or WP. so it was special. $70 flight voucher...meh.
