Not sure how much interest there would be, but I was thinking about doing a trip report about my forthcoming award flight from SYD to JFK on Cathay, via Hong Kong in J. I'm off to NYC for 14 days extending over Christmas/New Years :)

FYI. Accommodation on this trip in NYC also covered via SPG/Marriott points - thanks AMEX (especially since I've seen on the website that rooms are now above the $750AUD price per night!)

Be interested to hear what you think of the flight. I've done the CX JFK-HKG direct flight in J and found the seat to be quite narrow.

Remember to take your own pyjamas if you need them.

Flying:

CX 110 from SYD to HKG (Airbus Industrie A330-300 ).

CX 846 from HKG to JFK (Boeing 777-300ER).

Total flight time is 29h 35 mins (4hrs 20 mins lounge time in HKG).

I did Cx J Hkg-Ewr on 777-300ER last year and enjoyed the service albeit it was a long flight. Be interested to hear your views.

Am also interested, especially as I did CX's EWR-HKG flight earlier this year in one of their spanking new A350s (and to date is my favourite J hard product - haven't tried Qsuites though)

Just checked in online via the CX website. Received an email this morning reminding me to do so. Fairly straight forward.

Reminded that luggage allowance is 2 x 32 kg. Which seems generous. Plus 10 kg carry on.

Flight in T minus 43 hours.

Also saw this for anyone that wasn't aware of this change:

'Please be advised that The Arrival lounge, located on Level 3 between Terminals 1 and 2 of Hong Kong International Airport, has been permanently closed. The premise will be returned to the lessor as part of the terminal redevelopment. We will continue to explore new ways and partnerships that enhance our product and service offerings and apologise for any inconvenience caused.'

I'll be in 14K for the SYD leg to HKG. Mrs Dr Ralph (not sure she'd be happy being called that!) will be in 15K.

For the HKG leg to JFK I'll be in 16A. +1 will be in 17A.

I prefer the single seats stacked on the wings, rather than the joined seats in the centre of the plane, even though I'm traveling with a +1. And I know Mrs Dr Ralph prefers this too :)

The CX website for baggage is down at the moment so I can't check, but I'm sure that when I looked yesterday the limit for flights to/from North America was 2 x 23kg.

Confident that I saw 2 x 32 kg listed. This is for J, not Y.

Also just checked and the original Qantas issued ticket states:

'2 x 32kg'

Update:

Definitely 2 x 32 kg for check in luggage:

'2 pieces – 32kg/
70lbs each (for flights to, from or via the Americas)'

Plus - cabin baggage:
'10kg /22lbs
1 piece'

Baggage Information | Travel Essentials - Cathay Pacific

It is 2 x 23kg for Y.

Going to see Cowboys @ Giants ...

I thought about doing this, I've only seen College level games before.

But I was put off by the ticket price and the fact that I could be sitting in the snow for the duration of the game :)

So far we have tickets to see:

Harlem Globetrotters at Madison Square Garden on Dec 27.
Radio City Rockettes on Dec 25.

Also been following the TKTS App, trying to get a feel for which of the Broadway/Off Broadway shows are likely to be available at a 50+ discount.

This is an award flight that I booked at the exact date they were made available on the QFF web site (355 days ago?). I've never had a problem getting any flight that I wanted using QFF points – so long as you book at the moment that the flights are released.

QF points required were 278,000 for two people for SYD to JFK. Taxes were $553.16 AUD for two people.
