Hey all,
I will be travelling BNE-LAX-YUL on Dec 24th with a short 2h15min layover. As a Canadian expat, I've done this route several times before, but only recently have achieved Qantas SG status, so I thought I'd ask the true experts (the AFF community of course) for some tips!

QF 15 (Y class, have requested J upgrade with points) lands at LAX's Tom Bradley terminal, which of course has the Oneworld business lounge, but since my next flight is Air Canada 782 (Y class, it's a short flight!), I'll have to make my way to Terminal 6 pretty much immediately (Air Canada got shafted to Terminal 6 a while back)

I've done this same route earlier this year, but ran into two issues that I don't believe I had run into before:

1) Luggage collection and re-check
- I needed to leave the sterile area to collect my luggage and then immediately re-check it upon leaving TB. I would've sworn in the past that my luggage was previously checked through, but maybe that has changed with AC moving to T6?

2) T6 is hot garbage for lounges
- it's a pretty lame terminal (compared to the recently renovated TB) and doesn't have a Oneworld carrier lounge
- There's a AC lounge ("Maple Leaf Lounge", very patriotic) but I don't have access to that
- Las time some hurried google-fu led to me figuring out QF gold somehow gave me access to Air Alaska's lunge which was OK but not spectacular

TL,DR:
-QF gold flying Y on QF15 and AC782
-transiting ~2hours at LAX: landing at TB and departing T6
-do I really have to collect and recheck my luggage at TB? And leave sterile area?
-what are my lounge options at T6?

Yes, you have to collect baggage and recheck. There are only a few airports in the US that have "International Transit" and LAX is not one of them... As far as I am aware that has always applied regardless of terminal...so Im not sure what has happened on your previous transits.... I have certainly always had to pick up/recheck bags going AKL-LAX-YVR.... although it is a "bag drop" just outside immigration for bags tagged to the final destination...you don't have to physically check them in all over again.... You must, of course, be legally able to enter the USA...which is clearly not a problem for you - but it bears repeating....
