Just wondering if any one here has some advice on Travel Insurance.

In May 2017 purchased annual travel policy with QBE to cover some small trips and European Cruise and travel for July/August 2018. In Sep 2017 i had a DVT (Clot in my leg) which broke apart and travelled to my Lungs (PE - Pulmonary Embolism). This cause of this event is still unknown but wasn't caused by long haul flight. By Jan 2018 scan showed all clots had dissolved completely and as a precaution i am on 20mg Xarelto to ensure no further clots and so far l am fine. QBE were fantastic. I advised them as a courtesy, of the situation and they were happy to cover any reoccurrence whilst on the July Trip given at the time policy taken out l had no pre-existing conditions.
My doctor has suggested l stay on meds as we have/are planning a number of OS/Long Haul trips over the next 2 years. Given we have plenty of points we have managed to secure F seats travel in Emirates A380 for the flights to Paris return in Sep/Nov 2019 so fortunate to not being stuck in a restricted position for long hours.!!

So l have approached QBE for this years annual policy and whilst they will cover me for travel, they have set a $100,000 limit on anything related to a clot, but all other benefits relating to other illnesses and injury are as normal.

Obviously l am feeling perfectly healthy and according to my Specialist the chance of a reoccurrence is very minimal (less than 2%). I asked QBE if l could pay an additional amount to increase the cover but they wouldn't do it.
Does anyone know of an Insurer who would provide such cover. I would happily pay extra for the peace of mind in case it does happen.

Appreciate any advice.

Merry Christmas and Happy and Safe Travels in 2019 to All.

Ah. Welcome to the X and DVT club. Mine was in my jugular vein. Have they done all the blood coagulation studies? Mine showed I have a blood clotting condition. I’m on Xarelto permanently.

I am insured with Insure and Go. They cover pre existing conditions like this. It adds a bit of a premium - for me on an annual around the world policy it was $400 which is totally worth it for unlimited cover. Just do the online medical screening test, pay the premium and feel safe.

Hi Pushka, Thanks for the welcome to the "exclusive" club...! ;);) Oooh jugular sounds nasty! Never knew you could get them there. Yes have had all the tests (i have a fantastic Haematologist!) but l do not have any clotting condition. Totally out of the blue though they did suggest "the pill" could be a cause so have swapped that for Xarelto. WOW only $400 sounds like a bargain. I am getting "limited/conditional" quotes for anywhere from $700 - $2000!! So l will go and check them out now.! Let you know how l go.
Thanks for the advice and stay well...!!

It’s quite rare apparently and their first thought was that I had cancer. I think they use the Pill or HRT as the reason why it’s an issue when they just don’t know.
