New SQ J seats a shocker

We flew Syd > Sing yesterday on the new A380 and decided to avoid the new seat in future. It is way too hard, and the offset foot cubby makes for a very difficult sleeping position. The seat controls are badly placed leading to at least one false crew call by myself. Hard to understand how SQ could get this design through any focus group! The old super wide seat that flips over for sleeping is far more comfortable.

Intending to try the new A350 J to ADL in a few weeks, will see how that fare. I haven't been to SQ's A380 J seats yet, luckily so far, all in F. :D

I actually like the old A380 seats and sad to not get them next SQ trip.... which will be the new ones plus the A350

They are a dog of a seat and SQ are well and truly aware due to the feedback they have been receiving.

I flew it on Nov 8 PVG-SIN - my original seat mal-functioned and I spent over an hour with the IFM (Who just happened to be a SQ Auditor doing his monthly assigned in air review) discussing the many seat shortcomings. He asked me to prepare a comprehensive review of seat and submit to SQ which I have done.

Beggars belief that this seat ever passed and was installed in this format - add the hideous new R Suites and it is just unfathomable.

I found the old ones very uncomfortable, hard to believe they've made them worse!

Please report back. I have an A350 booking next year that I may need to re-assess!

Big mistake it seems. I can't help but think they place too much consideration on the average of height of locals, rather than fully understanding the needs of taller customers located outside the little red dot. I recently completed a survey for SQ looking at different tradeoff for five features of seats - including width of seat, width of foot well headrest, leg support and something else (which I can't remember, maybe length). One thing that struck me was some choices are not independent - if you wanted a wide footwell, you might also want a height adjustable headrest (as you are tall), where a shorter person might not need either. Sometimes I think there are big flaws in market research.

I happened to be at Burnside Village whilst they had the new seats on display. They're certainly a drastic improvement on the current A330 seats (which are fine for day flights but horrid for overnight - my shoulders literally don't fit in recline mode). I found them a little narrow through the shoulder space wise when sitting compared to the long hail A350, but then again I'm 6'4 so I don't fit into the average bear category.

I find the long haul A350 seats to be fine, sure the footwell is a little cosy, but given I have flippers for feet I've not come across any J class footwell that's friendly. Row 11 is handy given no footwell.

Being tall with bid feet the offside foot wells are a deal breaker for me. I like the old J a380 product and the 777-300 is my favorite.

Yup! That seat is a shocker for all the reasons explained so clearly. Flew SA J to and from Singapore, because it was half the price, in company with three QF platinum and regular QF J flyers. Universal criticism of the seat. Very surprising indeed. Monumental stuff up.

i flew it form hkg to sin a few weeks back, found i would accidentally hit the call button, but actually trying to use the other buttons was difficult, seemed to have to hold down for ages.....

The footwell to the side whilst not ideal, not a big deal for me

Just flew the Cathay refurbished business class overnight from HK - bed is a winner. They should all just copy their layout. All IMO of course.

First world problems guys! haha.

I purposely booked sq 221 from SIN-SYD to experience new A380 J! Bad mistake it seems. Oh well my flight is in mid jan. Hope my 8 year old daughter will be able to sleep a few hours for this flight....

Outbound from SYD-SIN I booked SQ212 which is 2015 J seat on the 77W. Is this one much better?

Gotta look at it this way, it's better than Y I suppose!

Cheers,
K.

When do bulkhead seats usually open up for non-elites? I'm 6'7 with massive flippers and flying SQ288 and SQ362 in about a week and want to try and snag a bulkhead!

Yes, the SQ 777-300 is my favorite J product so much room, storage space. So good.
