Hi,

I think I'm going to be 7000 - 9000 points shy from Sprite Elite.
I could buy these points but I don't think they are qualifying points that count to status.

Any ideas?

thanks.

Your best bet is to use the IHG app to book any upcoming stays (before year-end) and choose the option to add 1000 points extra per night, it will then ask if you'd like to bump this by between 1000 and 4000 extra points, yielding up to 5000 elite qualifying bonus points per night. You might manage to stay just one night at an IC to get to your goal.

It is worth noting though that the only benefits you get over Platinum will be 100% bonus points (non-qualifying) and guaranteed early check-in.

The Spire drink voucher you receive on checkin also includes spirits and coughtails ;).

I always take points but I guess that could be useful. I need about 4 nights and to spend about ~$800 by year-end to reach Spire myself and am contemplating it (have been for a while). Don't think I need it, but as with more loyalty statuses, it's not so much about a need as oppose to a want.

I'm amazed anyone is still discussing Spire. The whole thing uninspires me. either you get it, or you don't ... why bother otherwise?

You need elite qualifying points - which I believe purchased points don’t count. And neither do welcome amenity points.

The IHG website i’ve searched many times to find exactly what is/isn’t considered an EQM but I haven’t found the answer listed. I have assumed it to be food and accommodation (including eg. Bonus point 1000 pt/nt rates) bu little else. Others may have an answer.

E-rewards points that I transferred to IHG (9-12 months ago) counted as qualifying points

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I managed to transfer Amex MR to Virgin Atlantic to IHG in 2017 but VS miles stopped counting for IHG status in mid-2018
