So it turns out that Master Gremlin is waaaaay more talented at athletics than his old man. I'm looking at getting him and I to a track meet interstate early next year. I'm hoping to do it as a day trip and HLO. Previous meets he's been away for several days and checked in his track spikes in his luggage. Any idea whether these would be classified as a prohibited item? The Home Affairs website doesn't specifically call them out as prohibited, but would love it if someone can clarify one way or the other.

I really can’t see them being a problem but unscrewing the spikes and bundling them separately should probably avoid any issues

I can confirm , my nephew who was a very good U-18 100m/200m sprinter was advised by the State Athletics Association (VIC in this case) if travelling with spikes in hand luggage, remove the spikes. If you have fixed spikes, place in checked. Was for a nationals championship, travelling from MEL to BRI a couple of years ago. (2015 I think?)
Sadly, said nephew has since discovered girls, rather late:rolleyes: , cars and booze at university. Athletics career/Olympics are done now.
