Flying Syd-lhr in business. I put in for upgrade to F. I’m confused at wording, upgrade if on same flt with stop, upgrade is on 2nd flt arriving into destination.
Upgrade previously Syd-Dubai-lhr was all the way. I think I’m overthinking this.

When applying for an upgrade as a solo traveller applying for an upgrade as late as the gate you can get the upgrade for both legs or just the final leg. You won’t get an upgrade for SYD-SIN but not SIN-LHR. However you may miss out on the upgrade for SYD-SIN and still get it for SIN-LHR.

Similarly on the way home you may miss out on LHR-SIN but get SIN-SYD

Upgrade requests are made for each flight not the whole trip.
If booked as one Flight, ie. SYD-LHR then, as posted by @mviy an upgrade can be requested only for the entire journey - as in both flights. An upgrade cannot be requested for either SYD-SIN or SIN-LHR.

If you choose to select upgrade up to the gate, that cannot ordinarily be granted SYD-SIN, but at the gate in SIN it may be granted for SIN-LHR.

International Classic Upgrade Rewards up to the gate

Qantas is committed to providing international Classic Upgrade Rewards wherever we can. Upgrades may become available at the last minute due to cancellations, no-shows or missed connections. To increase your chances of an upgrade your request can now be further considered at the airport. To be eligible simply select 'upgrade at the airport' when you register for a Classic Upgrade Reward.

Before opting-in to be eligible for an upgrade up to the gate, please note:
  • For upgrades at the airport, if you are travelling continuously on a flight that stops in one or more ports (with the same flight number), you will only be eligible for an upgrade on the last leg and only if that last leg has a flying time longer than three hours. Points will only be deducted for the portion of your flight that was upgraded.
  • Upgrades at the airport will only be awarded for bookings containing one passenger.

So why doesn’t the same apply in domestic flights on the same booking reference on the same day?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Booking reference is irrelevant.

I do not believe there any multi segment domestic flights with single flight number operated by Qantas these days.

So this only applies to QF1 SIN-LHR, QF2 SIN-SYD, QF9 PER-LHR and QF10 PER-MEL?
