I saw this on OMAAT and I saaw jb747 has mentioned it on the pilot thread - but so we can have a general discussion, am posting here.

The flight landed in the end.

This is the flight track:

I'm glad I flew Uzbek airways and SCAT now during my time in Kazakhstan earlier this month!

Errr, I'm needing to get from Almaty to Delhi next year and Air Astana is the only direct flight. Bon voyage!

or not-so-direct as this flight path shows!

Very glad they managed to get it down. The Ask the Pilot thread indicated it was a maintenance delivery flight with only pilots on board. Must have been very scary for them. It will be very interesting to read about the cause and how they managed to regain control.

Wow, this is really bizarre. I'll be interested to see what Aviation Herald says about this.

I'm taking two Air Astana E190 flights next month. o_O

Well, the pilots got it on to the ground, so that's a good sign.

And if you use AvHerald, don't read the comments. They're bad enough to give the internet a bad name.

I watched the map listening to the transmissions - what a saga - they must have been absolutely exhausted fighting that plane!!
