Long time lurker, first time poster.
My wife and I purchased open jaw tickets (BNE-SIN-LHR , CDG-SIN-BNE) with SQ in PE for May next year.
I am hoping to upgrade at least one of the sectors to J using points.
Unfortunately the "Upgrade with Miles" link in the Manage Booking page doesn't work (I think because the tickets were booked through an agent), so I called up to enquire about availability and the miles required for upgrade.
The SIN to LHR sector and CDG to SIN sector are 57,000 miles per person, and the BNE to SIN sector (and reverse) is 39,000 miles per person. At this time only one seat is available on the SIN to LHR sector.
Pretty much all my reward points are currently in my Velocity account so I propose to transfer them to my KrisFlyer account (before the end of the year when the ratio changes). I've only got enough points to upgrade one of sectors.
Our preference is to upgrade the SIN to LHR sector although there is only one seat presently available.
Anyway, my questions are:
1. I'm not sure how/when upgrade seats are released - should we hold off in case more seats are released on the SIN to LHR leg or just lock in an upgrade now on the CDG to SIN leg while two seats are available;
2. I'm not missing any obvious tips or tricks to get a better deal or to follow a better process to upgrade?

For completeness, the tickets were purchased prior to the "SQ Premium Economy Food & Service" thread being started, and the reviews I had read/seen at the time were good.
