Does anyone know how Finnair apply their baggage rules for customers with Oneworld status?

We're travelling HEL-RVN-HEL next year on the basic fare (Z) which includes zero bags.

I'm a Qantas Platinum (OW Emerald) and the AY baggage calculator shows I can take one checked bag free.

Miss H is QF Silver (OW Ruby) and according to the Oneworld website that's the equivalent of Finnair Plus. However, the Finnair baggage check website doesn't show Finnair Plus as an option in the drop down menu.

I emailed AY ten days ago and have not had a reply.

Anyone know how we'll go if we turn up with two bags to check?

I believe the equivalent to QFF Silver is Finnair Plus Silver (which is also OW Ruby).

I think the Oneworld website is incorrect when it lists 'Finnair Plus' as a tier - it's missing the 'Silver'. The base (ie. QFF Bronze equivalent) status tier is Basic, as shown in that drop-down list.

Just to be clear, are you saying Miss H as a QF Silver will be entitled to one checked bag also?

I think you mean the AY baggage calculator?

I'm actually not sure Miss H would be entitled to a checked bag, going from Finnair baggage allowance page:

While Finnair Plus Silver is listed, OW Ruby isn't (unlike Emerald and Sapphire).

Yes, I meant the AY calculator. Have amended.

And yes I wondered if that was how they'd interpret.

How does that help a OW Ruby? It seems to be talking about the AY Silver Plus only. No mention of OW equivalents.... did I miss something?

It may not confirm a baggage entitlement for OW Ruby. I suspect it still means no bag.

But it helps me because it’s a link/document I hadn’t previously seen.

Most helpful would be AY responding to an email I sent ten days ago. :(

AY website - Finnair Plus Silver = QFF Silver/Oneworld Ruby, Baggage Allowance = 1 piece 23kg regardless of travel class. Finnair Plus Platinum = QFF Platinum/Oneworld Emerald, Baggage Allowance = 1 piece 23kg regardless of travel class. The rule is (AY code on the ticket and flight operated by Finnair or Norra). What ticket code are we talking about?

It’s an AY ticket bought direct via AY website.

My reading is that by the rules, no extra baggage allowance is given for Oneworld Ruby. Whether a checkin agent gives it might be another matter, but I'd be working on the basis that you'll have to pay if Miss H wants to check in a bag.

As for the email - it might be faster to tweet them at the @FinnairHelps account - they seem to be responsive there.

It’s certainly unclear and open to interpretation either way.

However, I found this in the link posted by @Eija which suggests OW Ruby benefits apply and therefore a QF silver could claim the extra bag.

That's saying that Finnair Plus Silver members get Oneworld Ruby benefits on other airlines. Nothing to do with Ruby level members of other Oneworld airlines getting the benefits their own Silver members do.

Additional baggage isn't a listed benefit of Oneworld Ruby, it's just something Finnair do for their own members. But, that's not to say you might not get lucky,..

I agree 100% with your interpretation. But armed with my AY screen shot I’m going to give it a crack. ;)

And if they knock me back I’ll have a rant on social media.:p

I’m kidding about the rant.

There is an AY office in Sydney and I have rung them from time to time for help and they have been very good. Perhaps better than waiting on the online request.
