So my review date was the day we left on our European J trip with SQ. They kept me at Plat for the outbound 3 flights earning 300SC, and also seemed to kept me at Plat for the return flights at check in in CDG and again in MEL for the last leg. also earning 300SC, i only needed 350SC to qualify, so though all clear. Nope downgraded to Gold while waiting for return leg SC to be awarded. Now have retained Gold for 12 mths and have 47SC to go to reach the 1000SC to 'earn' Plat. Because our big international trips are close to the same time each year i tend to have a large number of points expire at the same time. I have a trip to MEL before I lose the next chunk of points, so easy to earn the 47SC needed. seems like a pointless downgrade upgrade cycle.

Is this a question or a rant?

Did you earn 800sc and have 8 VA sectors in the previous 12 months to your Anniversary date?

Yep as @williamsf1 (good luck with the new recruit, BTW) has suggested, the only thing that matters is how much you earned in 12 months. The rolling balance thingo seems only relevant when you are looking at heading up a tier, and thus resetting your qual date. I made my last WP qual with 5 extra SCs - thanks Coles & Fly Buys for the 15 SCs on groceries.

Plus fly your sectors. My father stormed from zero to hero WP by paying cash for SQ J + VA family pooling ...and then failed to fly the VA sectors to actually get WP. Do'h!

Just musing thoughts, not a question or a real rant. No I was short SC prior to review, but over 16 sectors. My phone call to Virgin informed me that there was 30 days grace over the review date, which meant I would requalfy with flights the day after anniversary. But did not happen, rather a delayed downgrade, now will be upgraded back to full platinum again. I know it is what it is but seems like a crazy cycle. Just have to fly more next year, lol.

Neither, as far as I can see. More of a statement?
Further statement of futility, I got an email today from iShop Changi saying I have won a 50 dollar voucher to use in the airport/online shop. But have to be in Changi to redeem. So it arrived 5 days after we transited through Changi. Was not planning another trip before February ( Expiry date) so another close call miss.

From a lounge point of view in Changi, flying J class gets you into the better lounge anyway.
Agree, but way crowded at the time of night transit is from MEL-SIN. Actually preferred the Priority pass options I had last time I flew economy, but maybe that was because I was absolutely stuffed from the J flight I just got off. ;).
