Does anyone know much about the representation of Australian wines in the late 1960’s. My godfather was the overseas representative of the Australian Wine Board in the late 60’s and through most of the 70’s. He promoted Australian wines in Canada and England for almost a decade living in Montreal. His name was Colin McKay a winemaker from south Australia. I am curious to find out more on why the Wine Board was established and what they achieved in the promotion of Australian wines. If anyone has any information I’d love to hear back

The Australian Wine Board was created in 1936, but ceased to exist in July 1981.

A new AWB was established by the Wine Australia Act 2013 as the Australian Grape and Wine Authority, but branded itself as Wine Australia (see: Wine Australia welcomes new Board).

"Wine Australia is the research and development, marketing and regulatory body for the Australian wine industry and it is funded through several industry levies and some user-pays activities as well as matched government funding for research and development."
