I thought I’d give a review on a quick business trip to SFO with a bit of an unusual routing.

The trip started in KUL - travelling KUL/HKG/SFO on Cathay Dragon / Cathay Pacific.

Firstly I used the MH lounge in KUL - if you’re One World Emerald you’d be crazy to use the CX lounge you’re directed to instead.

The MH First Lounge in KUL is no QF First Sydney or CX Pier First in HKG but it’s still miles ahead of the KUL CX lounge with an ala crate dining room and excellent service.

Just a light meal of a Ceaser Salad before a long day of travelling....

Next up was the KA flight to HKG. For those that don’t know KA operates an old fleet of aircraft - today’s adventure was on a 24 year old A330. Departure was delayed due to an unserviceable APU resulting in a very hot cabin temperature it took a while to get under control using external air - mind you when we boarded it was still 30+ degrees on board and very uncomfortable which the Capt apologied for.

Once you’re on board the aircraft clearly shows its age - although the seats reflect the CX regional product. A very friendly crew on board and personal welcome from the Purser as a OWE.

Food was great for the flight length and IFE mirrors CX. Row 1 really is the pick with the legroom.

On the bad side on arrival into HK we waited over 30mins for a ground power truck due to the unserviceable APU - this resulted in me missing a visit to the Pier First lounge for a shower before the long haul to SFO. The flight deck door was open and it was interesting to hear the colorful exchange between the Capt and Ground Crew about why the power cart wasn’t tested prior to arrival - he was clearly as unhappy as the passengers!

Decent looking menu.

How was the next leg? Shame about missing The Pier.
