Hello everyone,

I would like to fly to Bangkok late October 2019 (must be there for 30 October) and spend about a week, with my partner.

I have approx 150k Qantas points and about the same for Velocity. Qantas will probably increase a bit between now and when we leave, maybe by 20k-30k.

What is the best way to fly Business, utilising some points if possible?

- Should I buy economy on Jetstar and use Qantas points to upgrade to Biz?

- Buy some more Velocity points and have enough for two one-way Award flights?

- Any other options?

Only Thai and Jetstar seem to fly direct (my preference) and current fares seem to be about $4k each on Thai and $2k each on Jetstar. I know the latter is more like Premium Economy than true business.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Doesn't work.

Redemption flights are very hard to get in J, this is a busy route. Maybe you can get a points flight to/from Singapore and catch a 3K flight from there? Or even Hong Kong and a flight from there?

Thank you for pointing this out. I probably wouldn't waste the points anyway, as Biz is only $2k each return.

You could fly to Sydney then use points on Emirates to and from BKK (120,000 QFF points per person) return.
Obviously 1 way is 60,000 points per person.

I am not sure on points cost for Velocity for the following out of Melbourne on Singapore Airlines:
MEL-xSIN-BKK
BKK-xSIN-MEL
You have more variety of flights and the connection in Singapore though.
Transferring points to KrisFlyer and then using them on SQ might be better but you would need to work out points difference etc.
