Hi

Travelling from Chiang Mai to Suvaranabhum domestic then have to check in and clear immigration to pick up my SQ flight to Singapore.

Does anybody know how long I should allow for the change over in Bangkok to check in and clear imiigtartion? I have the SQ 18:30 J out of Bkk. I have two options for the domestic one arriving in BKK at 16:00 and the other 13:30

1600 will probably be fine 90 times out of 100 but why risk it? It just takes one thing to go awry and you'll be sweating buckets.

Besides the SQ lounge at BKK serves up some of the tastiest coughtails going round so you can always cool your heels there for a bit.

In my experience having travelled from CNX via BKK quite a few times 2h 30m should be enough.

From memory with SQ you can use the transfer desk so no need to clear immigration to collect luggage and check in again.

Confused... don’t you need to clear immigration at BKK to exit Thailand? Or can it be done in special immigration point directly from domestic?

I’d be inclined to suggest unless there is a degree of flexibility with the SQ flight (there are later flights so it may or may not be the case) to go with the earlier one.

Once I arrived from KKC an hour late ... which gave me an hour connection to SQ. On arrival we taxied half way to downtown Bangkok (ok I exaggerate, but did taxi to the furthest remote stand), then waited for buses and steps then a 10 min bus journey and then I ran up to departures, collected my BP (had done OLCI), quickly passed through immigration (thanks to APEC card) doubled back on myself to get to the D gate and got to the plane moments before they shut the door. It took 50mins from landing to reaching the aircraft. With lots of running and express immigration/security.

Domestic to international transfer has its own immigration point. Much quicker than the main immigration point.

Thanks all for the quick responses, I have decided to play it safe and fly into bkk on the earlier flight. I hear that the SQ bkk lounge has good coconut ice cream!

Ok I’ve probably missed it ... perhaps as I used to be always be getting off buses rather than disembarking at gates. Haven’t done such a transfer for a few years though now.

Hi all,

For info as I was travelling TG domestic I could check in at CNX international all the way through, and clear immigration in Chiang Mai. They give a sticker with CIQ on it, once you arrive at survarnabhum domestic the ground staff direct you to the international section. All very easy and quick no need to check in at BKK or clear immigration at BKK. Resulted in a few spare hours to enjoy the beer in the SQ lounge!
