Qantas Status Credits when flying Malaysia Airlines

If you are booking MH economy flights then you need to check the booking class as the cheap MH flights do not earn with QFF.

The booking class is Y & M.

As per the table on Qantas website I should be eligible for status credit but still not sure.

Your PER-KUL flights will earn at Discount Economy rates, and your KUL-BKK flights will earn at Flexible Economy in Y or Discount Economy in M.

FYI Qantas are miscalculating the distance for KUL-BKK resulting in frequent flyers being shortchanged - you can argue this with them after the SC post.

It’s a shame that the earn rates are this way. There is a sale fare for $2000 Perth to Tokyo return business class, but it only earns a couple hundred status credits :(

Credit to BAEC ... and the 560 Tier Points will have you well on your way to BAEC Gold. (Also need to get the 4 BA flights.)

You earn minscule QF SC flying J, on Au - My with MH.
Status credit, if you do earn as you say hundreds, would see you at SG/WP/P1...!!!

Have you checked the Partner Earn table before this post?

My calculations is 2500 + 4000 points one way for PER-KUL-NRT with 50 + 100 SC's

Your calculations are correct. It's actually not a terrible earner compared to Qantas, which would net 80 + 120 SC on a PER-xSYD/BNE/MEL-TYO itinerary. MH fares usually allow KUL-NRT as a codeshare on JL metal (787 SS3 seat) as well, but the MH A350 J thrones are also very good.

It’s about 200 status credits - instead of about 440 with qantas - and yes, the points earn is bad too
 
MH is 300 SC and QF is 400 SC (both xSIN and xSYD/BNE/MEL)
BAEC earn is 140 TP for each of the 4 segments.

BAEC Bronze (Ruby) is 300 TP, Silver (Sapphire) is 600 TP and Gold (Emerald) is 1500 TP. Of course you need 4 BA segments.

If I were paying a J fare, I would expect to earn much more QF SC than that.
Pay a J fare, get J service, but earn at flexY rate of SC earn.
Granted, there are some who would be happy with that, but personally, I would not be.
If MH didn't have a J service, but only premY and I get flexY QF SC earn that would be sort of acceptable, but for pay Aud$2k and only earning half the usual, nak ahh.
But to each their own anyway.
 
The QF calculator is telling me thus: for MH flights 50 SC PER-KUL (flex Y) and 100 SC KUL-NRT (J).

And there go my prospects of flying MH or visiting KL on a regular basis. I wonder if this is a QFF change or MH change, like the way JAL dom J was seemingly dropped to Y+ SC across all OW carriers in unison.

Does anyone have knowledge of the financial side of how SC's work between airlines?

With points, my understanding is that the marketing OW carrier (MH) pays QF the agreed value of the points, when a QFF member travels on their MH plane, the idea being that this passenger chose MH because of the alliance and points. It's akin to a commission or "cost of sale" for attracting that customer to MH. So it's mainly the partner carrier who determines how much to pay depending on their assessment of the value of this incremental revenue, and thus how many QFF points in the end are awarded. Routes that are directly competing with QF routes have an additional factor, generally lowering the points earn on the parnter, but I'm not sure how that works.

Is this basically the same with SC's? Qantas is awarding SC's roughly based on how much they get paid by MH for providing them this passenger? I know that SC's are a bit harder to put a dollar value on compared to points, but there much be some similar calculus done here?
