The polite Japanese are finally getting sick of tourists

Is there a nationality who is universally well regarded as tourists?

I think you misunderstood, what I meant was those people (locals) are getting tired of tourists, especially those that live in places that are high on many peoples lists to visit, I was thinking Barcelona and Queenstown.

I certainly didn't mean the Spanish and the Kiwis were bad tourists!

And always be on time.If a train or bus says it will leave at 9.21 it leaves right on 9.21.A minute late and you have missed it.

Yes the Japanese ripped off their tourists unmercifully on the Gold Coast. After I learnt Japanese we tried to help out where we could. One night we were sitting next to a Japanese couple on their honeymoon.it was at the Seaworld hotel and the Teppanyaki bar.
She looked miserable.Turned out she had hives from sand fly bites. As well they were wondering how to pay the $50 they were told their transport back to the Casino would cost each of them.
So they got a free trip back with a stop at a chemist for an antihistamine and some calamine lotion.I scored his Mitsubishi tieclip and can still see them in the rear view mirror bowing with heads nearly touching the ground.

Unfortunately imo this is just part (a bad part) of human nature, taking advantage of those that you can, it's not just restricted to the Japanese, speaking of the Gold Coast, who remembers the white shoe brigade, I'm sure a lot of those didn't care about the people they ripped off nor indeed how they made their millions.
Selling land that disappeared at high tide, how is that even conscionable. Russell Island anyone?

The current investigations into the banks and others is another good example, commission, commission, commission, who cares about the consequences as long as I get my commission.........

Insurer's trips and 'show me the money'

For someone to do this shows that they have the morals of a polecat.....

"The remuneration structure has also been linked to the mis-selling of life insurance to vulnerable customers, which included a phone sale to an intellectually disabled Melbourne man with Down syndrome who did not understand what he was buying."

Sorry way off topic.

Interesting first 24 hours in Japan.
First Aussie tourists refusing to line up but push in.
Then later younger Japanese pushing in on Gaijin.Wouldn't have done that just a few years ago.

And now the Chinese are doing it to the Chinese tourist

Dangerous games... may get some short term profits, but the folk in CNS and OOL tried this with the Japanese and now they all go to Hawaii (and the Queenslanders wonder why their tourism economy is suffering).

I got into trouble in Osaka. The one city where you stand on the opposite side of the elevator. I managed to get myself stuck on the wrong side with my suitcase so was unable to move (and copped a spray from a young Japanese guy). The remainder of the commuters were mortified at his behavior, even though it was technically my fault.

Have been noticing on this trip that being polite is not as common with the Japanese as it was.

I've been travelling to Japan to ski for the past 15 years. Really horrified by some of the behavior I've witnessed, we wouldn't tolerate loud groups of drunken Japanese rolling around Campbell Parade in Bondi so why should they put up with what happens in the main street of Hirafu, Niseko? Only pushback I've received is from an older Japanese man who berated me for too much splashing while bathing before an onsen.

I have love visiting Tokyo. People are pleasant friendly and helpful
One example is once we had already checked out of our hotel and waiting for the airport bus one of the staff ran outside to give us water bottles. She was most concerned about the heat and us.

That's very nice to hear. I've had outstanding experiences of high quality service in Japan. I've also had below-average, couldn't be bothered treatment at a Kyoto hotel too which was a disappointing exception.

Tourists, what a dilema. We all want their money, but not their presence..

I am reading an occasional story in the media about an alleged decrease in mainland Chinese tourists and their spending.

The latest was about Tiffany's New York City branch.

Some economists claim that mainland China, economically speaking, is teetering due to President Trump's tariffs and consequent slowdown in orders for factories and many unoccupied apartments. Hard to glean the truth.

One can only hope that the numbers of these 'locusts' as one other AFF member above called them decrease. They are loud and have a tendency to push and shove (not that many bogan Australians don't do both as well).
