Just wondering if anyone has managed to leave the airport from the CX WING F Lounge during a long transit?

Have approx 12 hours between flights

What's the problem with walking out the arrivals exit? Is it that you fear you might not be able to get back in? With your next BP, that's not a problem.

I've done it many times.

But you need to decide when still in the arrivals area. They are not too keen on escorting you out from the departures area. Although I understand it can be done! A bit AYOR I think. I've been told "not allowed" by security.

Was planning to use get into the Departures Area, use the lounge prior to leaving the airport for a few hours

It's AYOR I'm afraid. There are reports on AFF that it's possible - the lounge staff might escort you back to the arrivals area.

I can personally say that I asked the question to transit security at HKIA and they said "no". Once through to departures you need a very good reason to return to arrivals. Much like an Australian airport I suppose.

I've done this before. It's frowned upon but possible. We arrived in morning on QF and had a late night departure on QF.

Go through transit security back to departures then when you want to leave go back to airline desk and they escort you back through transit security.

Had a long transit in HKG on 18 Sep ex LAX on AA193 connecting to QF98 to BNE. Was contemplating going into town but thought there may still have been a bit of damage around the place after the typhoon plus we would have had to store our hand luggage somewhere.

In the end we did a bit of a lounge crawl and went to The Pier F, The Bridge, Centurion, The Wing F, The Deck then QF Lounge. Could've done the Pier J, Wing J plus two Priority Pass lounges but 10 lounges probably would've been overkill.

Yep, ended up doing a two lounge crawl.... Wing to Pier and nearly sampling the entire coughtail list over 12 hours.......

Did you ask to leave? I have done it 3 times with CX. You need to wait for a CX employee (So im not sure if your airline will have one available) to take you down the lift and then you just go backwards through security. As said it is frowned upon but possible.

If I’m ever confronted with an itinerary which has a 12 hour transit, I look at extending it to a proper layover. Especially if it’s somewhere like Hong Kong. I guess that’s not always possible though.

decided not to... it was too warm for me outside and I could catch up with work over a few coughtails!
