Bulkhead seats, yay or nay?

For SQ 336 we have been assigned seats 18D and 18F in J in the A380-800. I assume this is a bulkhead row and is close to galley but not too close to the toilet. So am in two minds and out this pair. Stay or go? Seems to be positives of great legroom, negatives close to galley and possibly getting moved for bassinets. Any words of wisdom?

Yay for me. My care for what's going on around me is less important than a full size footwell.

Similar thoughts to me, I am a sticky beak, and as I tend to sleep curled up on my side not sure i need the extra room.

I’m not really into that so much but the inability to watch anything during take off and landing, not having items under the seat, and sitting looking at a wall is enough to make me antsy.

Absolutely a yay for me, I find the other seats more difficult to sleep in, love the full size foot well and prefer my own privacy over the ability to see others.

How tall are you? The taller you are IMHO, the more likely you are to appreciate the bulkhead.

SQ J bulkhead seats are the only comfortable seats for sleeping. If you can get one don’t think twice and grab it!

I agree, Pushka. I'm only 5ft 1" and need my bag as a footrest. And I need my screen within easy reach. On the one occasion when I was offered a bulkhead seat on a plane - an attempted "op-up" perhaps because a previous delayed flight had made me miss my booked connection - I refused it, and a tall passenger a couple of rows back was delighted to take it instead of me.

I have only been in row 11 Bulkhead seats and although seats are a little dated, the extra space was excellent.

5 foot 11, and my wife is a couple of inches shorter.

You would almost certainly benefit from the bulkhead, it just provides that extra bit of width for your feet (without confining them to the pointy end of the cubby hole). I’m 6’ and I always go for the bulkhead if available, for this reason. For your wife it’s probably OK without, but note that my partner who’s 5’10” also prefers bulkhead for same reason as me.

I agree, but the cubby hole is excruciating for all sizes, as it is impossible to stretch out for almost anyone adult. Having recently experienced their J from BNE to SIN return in an A350, interspersed with SQ's A380 and B377 J SIN-LHR return, all in non-bulkhead seats, I found them uniformly uncomfortable and cramped, compared with Etihad's B789, A380 and Cathay's B777 J.

SQ's fold-down seats are also extremely inconvenient in so many other ways.

Ir was the first and probably the last time I shall fly SQ in J, while they have these seats, as the bulkhead pax are so much more privileged than the rest.

Seems we have got bulkhead type seats on our two A380 legs, so will keep them after the advice, many thanks. We also have a leg in the forward mini cabin of a 777-300ER so that sounds cosy so will try this and see how we go, especially as it is not likely a sleeping leg for us. The A350 is another mater, no bulkhead options so will have to accept what we have. I will report back here and do a trip report too. Ta.
