Hi All,

So after an unexpected Economy --> Business upgrade on my way back to SYD from HND, I am now closer to QFF Gold than I thought I'd be. Originally I was going to be 185 SCs short but now I find myself more like 65 SCs short. The issue is, my rollover is 31/08 (< 2 weeks) - what do you suggest are my best options?

If I look at the benefits of QFF Gold vs the cost of a club membership (~ AU$560), what can I do for less than or equal to a club membership to get me over the line?

You only get status credits for class of service you paid for; so you if paid Economy and get upgraded using points you only receive the economy level of status credits.
 
Is it a points upgrade are you referring to?

No, they needed to move my flight and due to the inconvenience, they moved me to Business and gave me the 120 SCs that discount business would have. Either way, still need 65 status credits in 2 weeks.
 
Bonus - I am assuming that you are based out of SYD? That always assists in helping find the best route.

It is a pity that you didn't ask this question ~3 days ago as QF had a Double SC promotion that ended on the 14th that would have been helpful.

REALLY?? I've *never* heard of QF doing this previously. Did you have to ask or did QF volunteer this.

Most importantly: have they been awarded - or do you have the offer in writing ... ??

Are 500 of those SCs on QF/JQ? Have you been offered a loyalty bonus? Or is one due with just a few more SCs? If so that would be another 50 SCs.
 
They rang me while I was on Holiday in Japan and said, really sorry about this but we have to move your flight home to a closer airport (HND not NRT), a better time (back 2 hours so more time in Japan), direct flight (not via MEL as I originally booked) and on a different aircraft (747-438ER vs A330) and in J on the upper deck - with my partner as well.

I checked my QFF account as I was sitting on the tarmac waiting to depart and noticed the +120SC/10K points awarded. This was at ~22:30 AEST on 14/08 so about an hour and a half before the double SC ended... was tempted to book a SYD-PER return to sort it then and there but just didn't have the time.

UPDATE:
Just logged into my QFF online account and apparently I hit the threshold for a loyalty bonus... pick 50SC or 8k points... guess what I picked :p
15SC should be easy enough to sort now!

SG has all the benefits of WP plus more. Lounge access when flying on a OW (non-QF) or EK (to destinations QF partners with EK on) ticket is a nice benefit. The bonus points when you fly is nice too. Not to mention higher upgrade priority and the better availability of classic reward seats on QF metal. Whilst your SG can be a good time to try to use some of the points you've been saving up if you've found that it's been hard to use them.
 
Honestly, going by your luck so far I would wait a few days to see if DSC comes through on that 120SC.
 
So you called QF and they said they'd comp you gold ? I'm confused. How did this happen? It sounds unusual

Well that is a fortnuate series of events for you!

If I were you, I would keep quiet and just enjoy the benefits ;)
 
Honestly if this is accurate, if I am one of a number of posters here who have fallen short by jusgt a few SC's as in the past year or so and NOT been comp'd or offered the 80k points offer to retain I'd be pretty irritated.

Of course in any system there are ALWAYS exceptions made for various reasons - this is a given - but on the face of it, given the "new normal" QF seems to have established, this definitely flies in face of that. IMHO
 
There are probably a few factors that got this over the line for me: all but two segments were QF codes, my QFF account is associated to an Acquire membership that is heavily used (and points fat) and I've gained status fairly quickly over the last 18 months.

If the brand is about loyalty they will usually bend over backwards to keep your business - if you don't ask, you won't receive. By pushing me over the line, QF can be sure they will keep my business.
