Melbourne airport looking at "swing" gates within domestic terminal(s) to be used for international flights (and allow for both growth and airline flexibility for aircraft to operate mix of Dom and Int routings). I would imagine QF will be keen on this. Which will be bad news for F Lounge attendees.....

The more complex the gate/aerobridge/boarding system, the more that can go wrong!

At best it is an interim compromise, that will eventually provoke a much more expensive upgrade on the international terminal and development on domestic terminals.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They would likely build bridges over the Airside Road from after immigration in T2 into T1 and T3 at the start of the lower gate concourses, then build moveable walls around gates 2, 4, 6 in T1 and 1, 3, 5 in T3.

Gates 60-64 at NRT T2 are also swing gates.

The problems you tend to hear about aren't even the complex systems. They are normally someone forgot to open or close the correct set of doors. The same type of system at almost every international gate. They opened the domestic door into the departures area instead of the international door into the immigration corridor.

I was thinking that there's not much spare room around those areas (perhaps utilise the old QP bulge between gates T1 gates 1 and 3 5).

Then I thought "There's not much 'retail opportunity' in doing that", so perhaps a T4 style looong corridor keeping PAX and their wallets/Credit Cards safely near the shops before they have to board..
