I have noticed that, the Reserve card is categorized as 'Reserve or Explorer card'. Don't know if the system is 'smart' enough to find that you have already have a card in that category. Just a guess.

Also, worth well to double check with them to confirm there is no hidden card under your account. Previously, people reported that one of their old card was converted to another type of card, which he didn't aware of. Thus, creates problem for new card application.

Yeah, I have an existing explorer card. You may be right! I'll try to check with them.. thanks for that

Just got off the phone with them. He told me this week the back end systems are undergoing maintenance and this issue has been raised a something that needs to be fixed. It should be completed by friday. But the link may be fixed earlier than that. Hope that helps!

Very helpful, thank you. I'm not in a hurry so will wait and see if it's fixed.
 
Anyone have any luck with the 'you're already enjoying the benefits of the card' error? I'm still getting it when I tried to bring up an application form for the Platinum reserve. I've also noticed I can't add a supplementary card holder online.
 
the link is still not fixed. I called up today, they told me they can send me an email with the form, I can then print it out, fill in, scan it and upload it online to apply. Waiting for the email now

I called on Friday and the CSR insisted it should work, there was no reason it shouldn't. Eventually she offered to mail the form to me, not email. So I'm waiting as well.

Is it possible to get the Platinum Edge instead of the Reserve? Can points earned on the companion Reserve (or Edge, ideally) be used through the Platinum's transfer program (for example, to Qantas)?
 
I may have read on one of these forums that someone managed that but I think plat reserve is the standard complimentary card (also I don't believe amex would include the edge as a complimentary card and you'd miss out on the $400 travel credit that comes with the reserve card, so I'd probably aim to get reserve and the edge, given latter also has $200 travel credit)

Re your other question - yes, I believe plat reserve points should accrue in ascent premium rewards program
 
One person has reported success on here getting the Edge as the companion card, but myself and others have tried many times for the same thing without success.

No harm in calling to try, but don’t hold your breath!

I have the Edge as my complimentary card and have had for years - given I don't shop much in supermarkets now - I'm actually thinking of giving it back for the Reserve to get double the travel credit

Also getting the same error with getting the reserve card online. Amex have some big deal about emailing forms where they need to get manager approval or something, they can only post it. It's stupid because it is a generic form that should be on their website.
I tried to ask for a product swap from my essentials card to the reserve but they said it was impossible. They did offer to make my edge the companion card though for those interested in that option. I'd rather get the extra $400 travel credit with the reserve though.
 
I just cancelled my Edge and now trying to get my Reserve - only care about the extra travel credit with the future points changes. Spoke with them and they said I need to clear cache etc - I explained its not been working for months on many different machines and browsers and for many users - so they're investigating with IT! Didn't offer to send me a manual form though so I fear this may take some time!
 
Oh if it hasn't been mentioned - I know why the online form doesn't work - Amex classify the Reserve and the Explorer as the same 'type' of card - so if you have Explorer you'll never be able to apply online for the Reserve from what I can work out
