Hey crew,
just sharing an update to the Amex Platinum Charge card.

It's now offering 120,000 points (up from 80K), but has an annual fee of $1450 (up from $1200).

Bonus points criteria as follows: "Receive up to 120,000 Membership Rewards points when apply by 30 August 2018 and meet the minimum spend criteria – that’s 40,000 points for each month you spend $1,500 in the first 3 months."

The travel credit is also now $450 (up from $300).

There are some other changes too: The card now has Accor Plus membership (valued at $395), The Australian Financial Review Premium digital subscription (valued at $628 p.a.) and complimentary travel insurance now extended to supplementary card holders.

The bonus points offer ends on 30 August 2018.

And a juicy 60k referral bonus if you already have one.

I wonder if existing holders will get the increased annual fee when renewal time comes around.

Yes that's one hell of a referral bonus... two referrals per year and you've got the annual fee covered!

Regarding current members, increased annual fee will be imposed when reveal time comes around. Current members can access Accor Plus and AFR online membership straight away however... just not the increased travel credit

I recall that in the past you’d still get bonus points for the charge card if you had a credit card, or get the QFF bonus points if you only had a Velocity earning Amex issued card, or get points on a personal card if holding a corporate card. The new fine print now reads that any AmEx issued card makes you ineligible. How long has this been the case? :(

Probably 18mths to 2 years since the change you mentioned. Unfortunately the Amex systems seem to enforce the rules quite reliably too!

Apart from the DJ’s Amex and the new Westpac Amex it is an 18mth sit out if you want the bonus points these days
