Sorry if this is old news, but just heard ACCC head Sims interviewed on ABC radio here in Tas. Said ACCC has opened an investigation into QantasLink cancellations at Launceston airport (a high rate - either 4% or 6% was quoted). Also said that ACCC is looking at the 'airline industry' in other areas, as 'there many consumer complaints come to us about airlines cancelling, not compensation, and the like'.

I have always suspected without any concrete evidence that some cancellations are dynamic load management - done to minimise uneconomic flights or to maximise passenger loadings depending on your point of view.

Not illegal but often done at the last minute which makes the passenger captive to the airline because of high last minute ticket prices.

Yes, the interviewer asked if that was what the ACCC was getting at, and Sims all but agreed.
