With so many streaming services is it time to finally cut the Foxtel Cable?

I can now get (using a virtual USA geolocation)
Netflix etc
YouTube TV
Amazon PrimeVideo
Streaming 2,7,9,10

Is there cable like subscriptions for the US cable news networks, BBC, sports that are also available on Apple TV environment

I agree. If you're not into sport (and paying an arm and a leg for it), Foxtel is very poor value.

I'm not ready to give up Foxtel. I haven't found a streaming service yet which has the US shows I want to watch the same week they air in the USA.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was a reference to the new delivery method for Foxtel. Apparently they lose access to their cables soon and will be putting everyone on a satellite deal.

I cut the Foxtel cable about 8 months ago - but not to replace it with anything else! Just not watching much TV.

Issue I found is that they retain all your personal data in form accessible to their phone agents, and you only have to give your DoB and surname to have the agent discuss your account - or my former account in my case.

I made a privacy complaint to Foxtel, asking that my personal info be taken away from what phone agents can see, but the reply essentially was "don't worry, the agent can only see the last 4 digits of your cc number":mad:. I pressed that as I didn't have an account, and had paid the final bill some time ago, there was no reason for phone agents to see ANY of my info (acknowledging they had to retain archived info for tax and compliance).

Couldn't get them to budge at all. About to lodge an official privacy complaint, which the Privacy Commissioner's on-line 'test' shows I have a good case.

Sorry, that's a bit of a thread diversion, but just be aware that Foxtel keeps all your personal info easily accessible after you've gone.

I have Fetch tv quite enjoy it. It has ESPN channels, lots of news as well as BBC drama.

Might be worth a look to see if it meets your needs.

... and that's my problem!

The day I can stream ESPN to watch NFL and College Football will be the day I say 'bye bye' to Foxtel!

We got rid of Foxtel about 18 months ago as we only really watched the sport and found we were 'making' ourselves watch TV to get value. Only miss it occasionally for AFL matches, then we just listen to ABC radio.

And in Sydney metro satellite means the FTA channels are only available in standard definition. They aren’t allowing Foxtel to rebroadcast their channels in HD.

We only get sport during rugby world cup and then I cancel sports channels.

Last time I cancelled, guy on the phone said, "Mrs Denali, does your husband know you're cancelling the sports channel?"

Me: No but if he has a problem with it I guess his new girlfriend can get Foxtel for him at his new house.

Poor guy, you could hear his panic over the phone, that I was going to complain about him. Then I told him I was joking and hubby was aware.

Haven’t watched TV for a very long time , never felt better

Threat to cancel WILL cut your monthly subscription significantly - can't do without AFL and no intention to try.

Problem is the price you pay for those US shows. Some of the ones I watch pop up on YouTube within a few days - for the rest, I can find replacements to fill out my TV time.

Ha ha yes. When I called to cancel (and really meant it), I think I got down to just about free for 6 months ... I think they couldn't believe that I actually wanted to cancel ...

How many times can you do this?

It seems like most of those sports channels, new channels do not have standalone subscription - need to have a cable subscription

Free to air does me fine. No way would I pay for the stuff they broadcast on pay, why pay for a show I'm half watching because I'm half watching the AFF site at the same time.

Anyone visited their local library lately, plenty of movies, tv and docos available for nought cost.

Correct.

I had a Foxtel technician visit my home 2 times last month to address a pixel issue and he confirmed all customers will be transferred to satellite.

Besides no FTA of HD channels, the tech also said satellite in Perth metro does not like our heavy winter storms.
